Trend to Try: Studded Heels

Posted by babu 12:56pm GMT

Get em' while they're hot! Celebrities like Blake Lively, Katie Cassidy and Sienna Miller (believe me-the list goes on) are adding a little pep to their step with seriously studded stilettos, pumps and booties.

While the popular Christian Louboutin Pigalle Studs (worn by Blake (above) and Rihanna) will set you back about $1000 and the Rock and Republic Nika Pump (worn by Katie (above) and Rumer Willis) about $300, I found some affordable and equally fab versions at Macy's (Marc Fisher "Sal" pumps, $89) and Forever 21 (Studded Pumps, $29.80).

Pair them with tights and a wool trench and say so long to those frumpy wardrobe days of winters past.

Will you try this trend?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:50pm GMT

This week was all about...pretty pleating and one sexy LBD. And the winners are...

Blake Lively
sizzling in a lacy black Dolce & Gabbana mini at the "Sherlock Holmes" premiere in New York. WOW! Rachel McAdams should've been the star of the premiere, but with this plunging power-dress, stealing the spotlight was a breeze. This look, which is my fave among the group hands-down, is the best I've seen on Blake thus far. And I've got to find a style steal for those gold Christian Louboutin glitter pigalle heels. Fierce!

Rachel McAdams in Andrew Gn at the "Sherlock Holmes" World Premiere. While the actress didn't wow me in New York (see above), she still managed to achieve "fab five" status by wearing this asymmetrical, grey chiffon creation. The gown is rather ethereal, but the metallic embellishments along the bodice give it a slightly edgier feel.

Naomi Watts rocking a magenta Marchesa sheath at the "Nine" premiere in New York. Sculpted pleating along the shoulders and waistline took this dress (which reminds me a lot of the Victoria Beckham collection) to new heights. It was also refreshing to see Naomi choose such a vivid color. She, like friend Nicole Kidman, often falls prey to black and white.

Fergie glowing in a Marchesa Resort gown at the "Nine" premiere in New York. After months of harsh leather, chains and even spikes, the singer is having a feminine moment, and I couldn't be happier. The soft draping along the shoulder and skirt of this gown, completed with a sparkling waist and accessories, is a grecian goddess make.

Michelle Monaghan
working it in a pleated, J. Mendel bubble dress at the SAG Awards Nominations Announcement. This dress's cantaloupe color really brings out Michelle's natural glow. Nude, ankle-strap heels, wrap up the actress's youthful look.

Which celeb's red-carpet style is most ravishing?

Pip, Pip, Hooray! Fabulous Fashion at “Pippa Lee” Premiere

Posted by babu 11:05pm GMT

I wasn’t won over by the new leggy looks worn by newly single Robin Wright
(she’s dropped the Penn part of her name since our last post), but I loved the daring, modern but oh-so feminine red carpet looks her co-stars wore to their “The Secret Life of Pippa Lee” film premiere.

Friends and co-stars, Marion Cotillard, in a dreamy creamy sequin-accented dress, and Penelope Cruz, in a smart black blazer and of-the moment OTK boots, looked hip while joined at the hip.

Julianne Moore selected a rather tame look from wild fashion duo Viktor & Rolf whose designs were worn recently by Katy Perry for the stage and for shock .

People are still gossiping over Blake Lively’s plunging Marchesa blazer and short shorts. But I wasn’t shocked since the bare-all look is becoming her signature style.

And, Olivia Palermo did not act in the movie, but I still love her downtown cool look of leather leggings and furry vest and my favorite way to accessorize: with a cool clashing clutch.

One Designer, Two Ways: Marchesa

Posted by babu 2:04pm GMT

Katy Perry wore a fishtailed Marchesa gown to the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards, just weeks after Blake Lively got leggy in a shorter, and feathered, version of the same style at the "Where the Wild Things Are" premiere in New York.

Because both dresses bear the same intricate flower embroidering along the shoulder (which is by far what makes each design), I'm going to have to give this one to both ladies.

What I think is particularly interesting, however, is that each star's pick seems more characteristic of the other's personal style.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

I'm Obsessed With: Blake Lively's Orange "Birkin" Bag

Posted by babu 12:43pm GMT

Watch out, Leighton Meester! "Gossip Girl" Blake Lively channeled her inner "Blair Waldorf" at the 2009 Angel Ball with a tangerine-colored Hermès "Birkin" bag.

Miss Lively's handbag choice (which, judging by the crocodile detailing, could've easily cost her upward of five to six digits) was a refreshing surprise, as she usually opts for a more casual, boho, vibe. It packed major punch into her LBD and matching black pump ensemble.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:00pm GMT

This week was all about...working it, no matter what "it" is. And the winners are...

Emmy Rossum in a teal sheath from the Lela Rose Spring 2010 collection at the 17th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival in New York. The exquisite ruffle detailing trailing from the right shoulder to the waist makes this dress.

Camilla Belle secures her second "Fab Five" spot in a row in a black, Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 bodice worn to the 2009 Freedom Awards in Los Angeles. The intricate, allover pleating on this LBD makes it the perfect day-to-night pick.

Jennifer Lopez wearing a full-skirted metallic gold mini at the Fiesta Latina concert at the White House. I'm going to take a leap here and say this is one of my favorite looks on JLo thus far. The material is absolutely gorgeous and the cinched waistline (love that bow, by the way) does wonders for the singer's pear-shaped bod.

Kim Kardashian in a bright white Altuzarra dress at Hollywood Life’s 6th Annual Hollywood Style Awards. The fabric of this dress hugs Kim's every curve, while the pleated detailing creates an element of luxury and class.

Blake Lively in Marchesa at the "Where the Wild Things Are" premiere in New York. Seeing this dress on Blake changed my outlook on feathers as a whole. Unlike the "peacocks" out there, she looks tame, and tasteful.

Which star's style is on your "it" list?

Style Showdown: Khloe Kardashian vs. Blake Lively

Posted by babu 6:38pm GMT

Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian wore a plum-colored Alexander Wang dress with beautiful drape detailing to the Famous Cupcakes Beverly Hills Grand Opening last week. "Gossip Girl" Blake Lively was spotted in the same short sensation while shooting for the show back in August.

Though I'm not really sure what I think about Khloe's cheetah and lace booties, I love the way this dress flatters her every curve.

Who looks prettier in plum?

Trend to Try: Statement Tights

Posted by babu 12:31pm GMT

I don't know about you, but this fall I'm craving touch-me knits, bright booties, cropped jackets, and tights with a mind of their own. From magazine spreads to the runway, there's no question that bold mattes, fishnets and intricate designs are making a serious comeback this year. The big question is: Where do you draw the line between tasteful and tacky?

For a sexy, yet sophisticated, approach to the trend (I love those spotted on Blake Lively while filming for "Gossip Girl" above), stick to simple cutouts and rich hues (like deep burgundy, plum and forest green--I also love mustard for casual affairs). Or, for something more work-appropriate, opt for charcoal and heather greys (perfectly paired with a deep purple or cream sweater-dress).

A few of my personal favorite shopping destinations for tantalizing tights on a budget this year include...
Best for Work: Kohl's (their Vera Vera Wang collection is colorful, yet conservative)
Drool-Worthiest Designs: Target (think floral, fishnet and houndstooth sheering. Warning: they sell out FAST--I learned last year the hard way)
Most Variety: H&M (from leggings to legwarmers, they have it covered)
Coolest Colors: Hue (available at Macy's, their extensive line of shades ranges from blinding brights to earth tones)

Will you try this trend?

Best Dressed of the 2009 Emmys

Posted by babu 10:58am GMT

While our Best Dressed picks from the 2009 Emmys may not have taken home any gold statues last night, their first-rate style definitely stole the show. (See all the stunning dresses spotted on the Emmy red carpet in my new Emmy Lookbook.)

January Jones made a point of going for a modern Versace number to differentiate her style from her "Mad Men" character. Heidi Klum coordinated her Marchesa gown (custom made to accommodate her baby bump) to husband Seal's black tuxedo, while Christina Applegate chose an exotic deep blue dress by Lebanese designer Basil Soda.

Blake Lively in a down-to-there Versace number still managed to stand out from the matching red carpet. "Ugly Betty's" Vanessa Williams wore a flattering blue Rafael Cennamo gown, while Drew Barrymore (nominated for her part in HBO's "Grey Gardens" hit movie) floated down the red carpet in a dreamy peach chiffon Monique Lhuillier design.

Whose 2009 Emmy style do you prefer?
