I’m Obsessed With: Lauren Conrad’s Kate Moss-Inspired Look

Posted by babu 10:51pm GMT

Got a black and grey mix-and-match ensemble? Check

Got a mini to show off those model legs and you have perfect beachy blonde highlights? Check and check

Did you throw in a touch of cool laid-back menswear (possibly borrowed from your rock and roll boyfriend) to tame the sexiness of that mini dress? Yes (and it’s a $598 Joie Arietta sequin boyfriend blazer, in case you gotta buy it now)

Congratulations, Lauren Conrad! You are the most recent graduate of the Kate Moss School of Cool. And your blue nails, which lend the outfit a pop of color, just got you extra credit.

What do you think of Lauren Conrad's latest look?

Fashion Formula: Diane Kruger Takes a Bow

Posted by babu 7:13pm GMT

Diane Kruger’s style sense is one I admire because it always looks so right when you see it, yet it is so individual that it’s hard to replicate on your own.

One of the keys to Kruger’s unconventional red-carpet style is her love of bows – from Chanel
to Lanvin — that she’s worn in a variety of ways (check out those shoes!) since 2005.

While the accent is unexpected, the bows in Kruger’s looks always complement her outfits and never distract from the style or come off comical.

What do you think of Diane Kruger's bow accents?

I'm Obsessed With: Leighton's Bold and Beautiful Dress

Posted by babu 1:37pm GMT

Everything is coming up (hand-painted) roses these days for Leighton Meester, whose show “Gossip Girl” has everyone talking and who just released the first song “Somebody to Love” off her debut album (listen to her new song http://www.leightonmeestermusic.com/
" target="_ ">here).

So, it’s only fitting the stylish star, who has a flair for more dramatic fashion when not on the "GG" set, would select this painted rose silk dress from new designer Prabal Gurung for an event at the New York Public Library. (Other celeb fans of Gurung's designs include Demi Moore and Rachel Weisz.)

On how she defines great style, Meester says: “At the end of the day, it's about what you feel amazing in.” In that dress, she must feel really great.

Quick-Change Artist: Kim Kardashian

Posted by babu 4:24pm GMT

You all know how much I love Kim Kardashian’s amazing curve-conscious style, so I was thrilled when Kim delivered two looks in under an minute to watch Jennifer Lopez’s football team, the Miami Dolphins, play the New Orleans Saints this week. (Yup, fashion peeps, J Lo has a football team, along with singer Fergie, but that’s a story for another blog.)

Leave it to Kim to find a jacket that is red-carpet-worthy, with its of-the-moment cropped style and a super-feminine oversized soft lapel. And the outfit underneath is just as chic – especially the combo of a floaty black top with tough chains and those to-die-for boots.

The best part about both of Kim’s looks is that they are easy to duplicate without relying on designer labels. Stores like Forever 21 and TopShop are carrying lots of black party tops, faux gold chains, skinny jeans and platform boots right now.

Pop Queens Come Out to Honor Their King

Posted by babu 12:22am GMT

Jennifer Lopez and “Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky are both triple threats in the talent arena (singing/acting/dancing) and have envious curv-a-licious figures.

But last night, at the “This Is It” Michael Jackson documentary premieres, these two stars, both with black looks, metallic accents, oversized clutch bag and swept-back hair, faced off in a style showdown on separate coasts.

Most would give an easy win to Lopez’s flashier (and pricier) Herve Leger beaded bandage dress and attitude boots, but I love Blonsky’s peep-toe platforms, sheer belted tank and bronze clutch.

Jennifer may be able to pay for her look – even if it’s just borrowed for the night – but Nikki’s more accessible chic style is something we can recreate from our own closets.

Whose look do you prefer?

Downgrade: Model Amber Valletta's Wacky Wrap Dress

Posted by babu 1:28pm GMT

Model and actress Amber Valletta may be a hippie at heart despite her pinky finger fashion modeling jobs, but the latest caftan creation she wore to a recent fund raising event looks more suited for Mrs. Roper than the red carpet.

Just a few weeks earlier, she modeled a pretty perfect bohemian look in a more flattering vintage-inspired gown at the Hollywood Style Awards.

What do you think of Amber's latest look?

Sherri Shepherd Steals the Show in Emerald Tadashi

Posted by babu 12:12am GMT

I want Sherri Shepherd as a best friend. After watching her host the Thurgood Marshal College Fund "Front Row" fashion show last Friday, I adore everything about the fun-loving, call-it-as-she sees-it single mom and co-host of "The View." (Shepherd's also a sitcom star with her show “Sherri," right here on Lifetime.)

When she wasn’t flirting with the male models of the show, or calling out celebrity make-up artist Sam Fine (who makes up the face of Vanessa Williams and Tyra Banks) for living up to his last name, Shepherd was wowing the crowd with her new curves in an emerald Tadashi Shoji dress (and matching eyeshadow) from Saks Fifth Avenue.

The event celebrated black leaders in the fields of fashion and entertainment and was also attended by Naomi Campbell, who received the fashion icon award for her 25 years as a groundbreaking supermodel, just before hopping on a jet plane to Moscow to be a guest editor for Russian "Vogue." (you heard it here, first, ladies)

Celebrity Misfit: Sienna Miller Cuts Off Her Balmain Dress

Posted by babu 2:13pm GMT

Usually, the extreme high-fashion looks sent down the runway are just for dramatic effect and a more wearable version is what actually hits the stores.

But last night, the Balmain dress Sienna Miller wore in NYC for the after-party for the Broadway opening of her play “After Miss Julie” was shortened to a dangerously unwearable length compared to the original dress Carmen Kass modeled
at Balmain Spring 2010 show in Paris.

Most of Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin’s rock-and-roll-luxe creations are way too wild (and outrageously expensive) to wear anywhere except the red carpet, but Kass’ dress looked downright demure compared to the altered version Miller wore out last night.

Since a simple sequin LBD from Balmain is currently selling for $13,000 on NetaPorter.com, will Sienna be requesting a discount on her shortened style?

What do you think of Sienna Miller's Balmain dress?

Red Carpet to Real Life: Rodarte for Target Stores

Posted by babu 11:29am GMT

Since it was announced a few months ago that the sister team Kate and Laura Mulleavy behind the avant-garde fashion line Rodarte would create a collection for Target, I have been anticipating seeing what they would come up with. Wait no more!

Images of the new line from the editors’ preview just hit the internet, so you can do a little pre-shopping before the items reach Target stores on December 20 this year.

Based on the pics, the affordable new collection will contain lots of deconstructed and layered tulle dresses, similar to the styles we have seen on the red carpet, in addition to the trendy neon leopard prints that having been spotted prowling awards shows.

Will you buy Rodarte's affordable designs for Target?

Versace Rules the Red Carpet at the Whitney Museum Gala

Posted by babu 11:14am GMT

Ciao, bellas! Celebs rocked the red carpet last night at the Whitney Museum Art Gala in NYC where actors, models, and fashion types (aka, the faces you see guest-judging on "Project Runway") mingled among the modern art.

There was no need to ask "Where did you get that dress?" since the top-tier stars were all in Versace.

Jennifer Hudson showed off her new-mom radiant glow and her mini-me: designer Donatella Versace in a dress the same shade as Hudson's.

Mischa Barton evoked Old Hollywood glamour in her midnight silk dress, while actress Mamie Gummer, who looks so much like mom Meryl Streep, stood out in bold blue.

But Shakira's armor-esque metal dress looked like she was poured into it and would be standing most of the evening.

Whose Versace dress is your favorite?
