Dare to Wear: Malin Akerman

Posted by babu 4:13pm GMT

"Couples Retreat" star Malin Akerman was glowing in a strapless, yellow and nude dress from the Thakoon Resort 2010 collection at her film's Los Angeles premiere.

Though it would be pretty difficult for the actress to actually look bad wearing anything, I would've liked to see her mini paired with nude heels and a bright-colored or black clutch.

Dare to Wear: Jessica and Ashlee Simpson

Posted by babu 6:03pm GMT

It's a conspiracy! Partners in style crime Jessica and Ashlee Simpson kept it casual (and a bit boho) while celebrating Ashlee's 25th birthday at the Wet Republic pool at the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas.

While their attire is pool-side appropriate, I would've preferred to see the girls in something more flattering and, in Jess's case, less grandma.

Dare to Wear: Rihanna

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

What amazes me about Rihanna is that no matter what she wears (bleached jeans, leopard booties, space uniform), she's always managed to make it more than work. That is, until now.

The usually dashing diva pushed the style envelope even further in a push-up bra, blazer and harem pants (both designed by Balmain) at the designer's runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Though I love her futuristic take on fashion, I can't help but wonder: did this look cross the thin line between flashy and trashy?!

Dare to Wear: Lindsay Lohan

Posted by babu 6:00pm GMT

When in doubt, throw on some lingerie and top it off with a sequined shawl. At least, that was Lindsay Lohan's wardrobe rationale for the 90 Years of Vogue Covers on Champs Elysees party at the Hotel Crillon in Paris last night.

It looks like LiLo left her bra at home yet again. All I can say is at least she wasn't wearing leggings.

Dare to Wear: Juliette Lewis

Posted by babu 7:18pm GMT

Leave it to Juliette Lewis to "out-dare" Drew Barrymore's wacky "Whip It" wardrobe pick at the latest premiere for the film in Los Angeles. Not only did the actress, who once dated Brad Pitt, appear as though she was wearing a garbage bag, but she topped off her "loco" look with spiral tights and hot pink gloves.

Dare to Wear: Becki Newton

Posted by babu 6:51pm GMT

Sassy style maven Becki Newton mastered the corset trend in a metallic gold and black bustier number by Camilla and Marc at the opening of Renaissance NY Hotel 57 in New York.

Though I love the shape and length of this dress on the "Ugly Betty" star, I only wish that the corset offered a little more support in the chest area (would make a huge difference).

Dare to Wear: Anne Hathaway

Posted by babu 5:46pm GMT

I absolutely love this Lela Rose dress worn by Anne Hathaway to Variety's First Annual Power Of Women Luncheon, just not on Anne Hathaway.

Though the classy, origami-style folding detail along the right side, as well as the fact that this dress is strapless, fits the actress's usual style to a "T," Anne's milky white skin doesn't give the marigold hue (which reminds me of the slightly darker shade worn by Ginnifer Goodwin to the "He's Just Not That Into You Premiere" earlier this year) the justice it deserves.

On another note, I also think the dress color clashes with that of Anne's mauve-toned lipstick. I would have preferred to see her wear a nude lip shade.

Dare to Wear: Carrie Underwood

Posted by babu 7:41pm GMT

Those of you who are familiar with Carrie Underwood's larger-than-life style (remember her parachute-like performance dress for the Academy of Country Music Awards?) probably weren't too surprised to see her in this frou-frou frock, worn to last night's ACM Awards.

Though I love that emerald shade, I think Carrie got "carried" away with all that lace (and those gloves--who is she, Lady Gaga?). She looks like she just had one of those old western photos taken, minus the cowgirl hat and rifle.

Dare to Wear: Emma Watson

Posted by babu 5:42pm GMT

No wizard cloaks here! "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson worked her magic (and showed some skin) in a leggy Burberry dress at the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2010 show during London Fashion Week.

I love how the edginess of the allover embellishments is offset by the neutral tones and sleek shape of this dress (guts and grace).

Dare to Wear: Victoria Rowell

Posted by babu 12:42pm GMT

Just because it's supportive doesn't mean it's stylish. Whereas this Obama-rama gown worn by Victoria Rowell would've been semi-appropriate for the campaign trail or the Inaugural Ball (let's be honest, even that's a stretch), it certainly wasn't befitting for last night's Primetime Emmy Awards.

First lady Michelle didn't become a style icon by wearing Barack-head baubles...
