This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

This week was all about the Oscars. And the winners are...

Amanda Seyfried
enchanting in Armani Prive. One of my favorites of the night, this structured gown is a Cinderella fairy tale come true.

Katy Perry
mesmerizing in Zuhair Murad. This modern mermaid make (from the Spring 2010 Couture collection) has an Old Hollywood glam appeal that suits Katy's voluminous 'do perfectly.

Cameron Diaz
glowing in Oscar de la Renta. As if this sparkling ball gown weren't luminous enough, its large flecks of gold manage to catch the light in every direction.

Rachel McAdams
looking colorful in Elie Saab. This breezy gown, covered with a floral, watercolor print, paints a picture of red-carpet perfection.

Sandra Bullock
shimmering in Marchesa. From lacy beginning to shimmery end, this gown reads like an old-fashioned romance novel.

Sizzling Oscar After-Party Styles

Posted by babu 4:08pm GMT

It's no secret in the Oscars world that some of the fiercest fashions wait until after the awards to come out and play. Some of my favorite looks this year included...

Kate Bosworth
romancing in Valentino. While the ruffles along the shoulder and waistline of this gown are no doubt gorgeous, it's the dress's exotic, coral shade that sends the competition packing.

Hilary Swank rocking Armani Privé. The actress took a dramatically different route than stars like J.Lo and Amanda Seyfried (who both wore Armani Privé princess gowns), opting for something that better suits her straightforward style, and really plays up her sex appeal.

Katy Perry mesmerizing in Zuhair Murad. This modern mermaid make (from the Spring 2010 Couture collection) has an Old Hollywood glam appeal that suits Katy's voluminous 'do perfectly.

Kate Beckinsale
shimmering in Kaufman Franco. Kate rarely disappoints on the red carpet, and this occasion was no exception. While the fit of her asymmetrical gown was rather breezy, it still managed to emphasize the actress's flawless figure.

And believe me, you ain't seen nuttin' yet! Check out more Oscars after-party styles now on All the Looks.

I’m Obsessed With: Katy Perry's Nude Heels

Posted by babu 6:17pm GMT

Remember back in early November when I was encouraging everyone to do like the stars and http://www.mylifetime.com/all-the-looks/all-the-looks-insider-blog/trend... " target="_blank">go nude?

Well, if you weren’t listing then, trust me, this is a fashion investment that you won’t regret.

Not only will these buff beauties, like the pinkish hued sky-high platforms Katy Perry wore last night to the Grammy Nominations event and concert, go with everything in your closet (except running shorts), they lend a bit of polish and sophistication to even the shortest of skirts and tightest of dresses.

Do you own a pair of nude heels?

One Designer, Two Ways: Marchesa

Posted by babu 2:04pm GMT

Katy Perry wore a fishtailed Marchesa gown to the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards, just weeks after Blake Lively got leggy in a shorter, and feathered, version of the same style at the "Where the Wild Things Are" premiere in New York.

Because both dresses bear the same intricate flower embroidering along the shoulder (which is by far what makes each design), I'm going to have to give this one to both ladies.

What I think is particularly interesting, however, is that each star's pick seems more characteristic of the other's personal style.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:36pm GMT

This week was all about...coming out on top. And the winners are...

Mariah Carey
in a black Zac Posen gown at the "Precious" screening in Los Angeles. Previously seen on Kate Winslet, the unique cleavage cut and body-hugging shape offer a playful take on this otherwise basic halter dress.

Leighton Meester
wearing a floral, brush-painted Prabal Gurung sheath at the 2009 Library Lions Benefit. The oversize flower made from the dress' material is so powerful that it manages to steal the spotlight away from Leighton's exquisite hair and makeup.

Beyonce
sparkling in an Atelier Versace fishtail gown at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Out of all of the Versace gowns I've seen on the red carpet lately, this one has to be my favorite. The intricacy and intensity of this dress (complete with geometric bead detailing, allover shimmer, and a fresh take on the modern-day corset), make it hard to look away.

Eva Mendes rocking a multicolored Chris Benz dress at "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" premiere in Los Angeles. Now this is one girl who knows how to have fun. The usually conservative actress kills it in a plunging sequined bodice that proves colored glitter is not longer just for kids. She gets bonus points for choosing a dress without pockets.

Katy Perry working a nude-colored Marchesa gown at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Just when you think this fearless fashionista has lost it, she goes and finds it (and then some) in something absolutely stunning. The floral lace detailing on this gown (also present on a style worn previously by Blake Lively) is almost enough to distract the eye from the perky push-up and whimsical cross-layering of fabric throughout.

Which star's top-notch style is your favorite?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Tinsel Town

Posted by babu 10:35pm GMT

If you ever need to check your lipstick but left your mirror at home, feel free to call on one of these stars. We’ve seen a lot sparkle on and off the red carpet lately –but I’m just not a fan of foil as evening (or day) wear.

Dakota Fanning’s sequin target="_blank">Elizabeth and James top is actually quite sweet for a teen drama queen, especially when paired with low-key jeans and Converse. And while we expect Katy Perry to be in costume even if it’s not Halloween, target="_blank">Gwyneth Paltrow’s blinding target="_blank">Alice & Olivia trench is a style departure for her usual demure looks. Or, maybe she’s just anticipating lots of left-overs at Thanksgiving.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Ballerina Girls

Posted by babu 8:09pm GMT

What girl who takes a dance class didn't want to grow up to be a ballerina? Obviously, some stars and a few designers definitely did, since tutus and ballet shoes have danced their way across the red carpet more than a few times.

Katy Perry looked ready to perform "Swan Lake" rather than hold a press conference last night for the MTV European Music Awards. Her pale blush feather dress is by Jenny Packham while the shoes that make her look like she's on pointe are Louis Vuitton.

Model Daisy Lowe wore an adorable (and quite wearable) ballerina-inspired look by Louis Vuitton to attend the fashion house's Spring runway show in Paris a month ago, while Megan Fox was in ample pink tulle for the 2008 MTV Music Awards.

However, who could ever forget (well, maybe you did, so here is a pic to remind you) Lara Flynn Boyle's famous night as prima donna of the red carpet at the 2003 Golden Globes.

Dare to Wear: Katy Perry

Posted by babu 11:37am GMT

These photos are proof that Katy Perry will put on, or take off, anything for the camera. The singer worked a weird circus showgirl vibe (doesn't she know that's Britney's shtick?) while shooting for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009.

In one photo (left), Katy looks like a high-end hooker in a sheer corset tutu and Christian Louboutin Circus thigh-high boots, complete with a big red bow in her hair and red and white cuffs (where is the rest of the shirt?!)

In the other photo, she looks like the victim of a serious wardrobe malfunction (that, or a major wedgie), in lingerie twisted at one side and a bow-clad garter. I wonder if she's trying to make a play for the Victoria's Secret Runway Show...

Would you dare to wear this look?
