Work to Weekend: Eva Longoria Parker Leads a Triple Play

Posted by babu 5:55pm GMT

Eva Longoria Parker recently stripped naked to pose for the work essential trench company London Fog, but on October 20, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for L’Oreal, she donned a signature body-conscious dress by Nicole Miller that was perfect for pulling double duty as day or evening wear.

Joining Eva, in equally versatile red carpet ensembles, were actress Andie MacDowell in a simple but modern print shift and Latina film star Kate del Castillo in flat-front pants and polka-dot top. While Andie looks suited for the fall weather, Kate dressed for L.A.’s recent 80-degree temps.

Celebrity Misfit: Sienna Miller Cuts Off Her Balmain Dress

Posted by babu 2:13pm GMT

Usually, the extreme high-fashion looks sent down the runway are just for dramatic effect and a more wearable version is what actually hits the stores.

But last night, the Balmain dress Sienna Miller wore in NYC for the after-party for the Broadway opening of her play “After Miss Julie” was shortened to a dangerously unwearable length compared to the original dress Carmen Kass modeled
at Balmain Spring 2010 show in Paris.

Most of Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin’s rock-and-roll-luxe creations are way too wild (and outrageously expensive) to wear anywhere except the red carpet, but Kass’ dress looked downright demure compared to the altered version Miller wore out last night.

Since a simple sequin LBD from Balmain is currently selling for $13,000 on NetaPorter.com, will Sienna be requesting a discount on her shortened style?

What do you think of Sienna Miller's Balmain dress?

Now Add This: A Blazer to Nicky Hilton's Graphic Dress

Posted by babu 6:50pm GMT

We have already suggested a few ideas to take you from Work to Weekend, but this time, Nicky Hilton's graphic black and beige sheath is the foundation to kick start your work week. With the addition of a single-breasted black blazer like the ones from Top Shop (above) or classics retailer Banana Republic, the dress becomes a double duty closet staple.

Keep Hilton's coordinated Christian Louboutin camel peep-toes for ultimate chic style or tone down the bold graphics and sheer neckline by tying on a silk scarf and choosing black closed toe heels with your jacket.

I'm Obsessed With: Sage Fashion Choices

Posted by babu 1:36pm GMT

I am green with envy over these delicious sage-hued looks on "Damages" actress Rose Byrne, in Chloe's resort collection, and star Kerry Washington in Calvin Klein.

I am even more impressed to to see the verdant shade enter the fall fashion landscape that has been dominated by black
lately. Not only is the new hue a refreshing break from all the black, the color works well on everyone from fair to tawny complexions.

Upgrade: Cindy Crawford Finds Her Model Style

Posted by babu 8:52pm GMT

Earlier today for the Omega watches store opening in London, Cindy Crawford looked as if she let her two kids pick out that uninspiring Barney-color dress. Yes, belts are in, Cin, but model good looks aren't enough to pull off a style that just sits there, boring, blah and basic.

But Crawford traded her safe style for a sexier LBD for the Omega after-party with accessories more suited to her super-model legacy: a rock star friend (Lily Allen, on right) and a globe-trotting English model in an I-don't-care rocker tee (Annabelle Neilson, left, friend of Kate Moss).

Downgrade: Paris Hilton Skips Class

Posted by babu 11:47pm GMT

It's hard to make a skin-tight leopard bustier dress look classy. But back in 2007 at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas, Paris looked lovely in her leopard
Dolce & Gabbana number. [With such a bold print, it's more chic to trade matchey-matching accessories for a coordinated mix of luxe-looking neutral ones.] Purr-fect, Paris.

Fast forward a few years, and Hilton stalked the red carpet in NYC wearing a less impressive neon cat dress by Diane von Furstenberg with questionable hair extensions as well.

What do you think of Paris Hilton's latest leopard look?

Upgrade: Rachel Weisz Sizzles in Red

Posted by babu 9:02pm GMT

Rachel Weisz heated things up in Spain today in an ultra flattering red taffeta Prada dress (and Prada shoes too) for the Madrid premiere of her new film "Agora." And while I still adore the leopard print Louis Vuitton shift dress Weisz wore a few years ago to celebrate her Gotham magazine cover (in fact, it reminds of this Work to Weekend leopard dress), today's strapless style and the brighter blue-ish red shade flatters her dark hair and fair complexion better.

Do you think Rachel Weisz's recent red dress is an upgrade?

Robert Verdi Q&A: All About Eva Longoria Parker's Style

Posted by babu 6:15pm GMT

We scored an exclusive interview with Eva Longoria Parker’s stylist, Robert Verdi, just as he and Eva wrapped the ALMA Awards, at which Eva changed eight times as host. Read on to find out just how they go about choosing so many amazing red-carpet looks year in and year out, and how to replicate Eva’s style on your own.

How did you meet Eva Longoria?

We met on the set of “Desperate Housewives” in the first season. I was visiting her set while filming a segment for “Fashion Police” called Inside the Wardrobe about the stylish closets of popular TV shows. She recognized me from my interior design show “Surprise by Design” and screamed when she saw me. She came up and said, “Will you decorate my house? I don’t have one yet, but when I do, I want you to decorate it.” Eva then came to NYC and I dressed her for her first Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and SAG awards that year and until now.

How far in advance do you pull dresses or looks for her awards shows?

Only about 2 weeks out. We try to wait for the latest and greatest looks and work with the designer to create something special for her or for the event. We also like real clothes and fashion that the consumer has access to; so a lot of Eva’s looks are retail, not couture. I’ve put her in a $99 MEXX dress for the red carpet and even Bebe.

Eva wore 8 incredible looks for the 2009 ALMA Awards. How many dresses did you start with before you narrowed it down to 8?

Not as many as people would think, possibly 30 – I probably looked at 200 – but had 30 in my possession.

What are 3 things to look for while shopping if someone wants to emulate Eva’s red carpet style?

Sparkle, color; and a body-conscious shape.

What is Eva’s next big public fashion moment and how are you preparing for it now?

She is going to a gala in Paris so we are working a lot this week with Versace to get some looks.

Who are some of your other star clients we can also look for on the red carpet?

Kathy Griffin and and Kristen Wiig [of “Saturday Night Live”]

How do you to keep things fun with your celeb clients when it starts to get late or they have tried on a hundred looks?

I curse and make dirty jokes.

If you could dress any celebrity whom you haven’t worked with yet, who would it be, and why?

Lady Gaga. I think she is the Madonna of our times and could end up in the most gorgeous designer clothes like Madonna now.

What other projects are you working on besides being a stylist to the stars?

I am filming a TV reality series based on my work and real life. And also hosting “She’s Got the Look” again (a search for over-35 fashion model). I also have an event space in NYC and my interior design work. I just did "The View’s" Joy Behar’s home in NYC and a new home for Eva and Tony in Texas.

OK, here’s our lightning round. Ready?

Favorite color? Purple

Favorite fabric? Furniture: Mohair velvet; Clothing: Wool crepe

Favorite midnight snack? Peanut butter

Guilty pleasure? Vintage sunglasses, because I have 1,500 pairs

Quality you most admire in a person? Restraint or discipline

Favorite getaway? Pennsylvania. I’m not a beach person.

Grammys or Oscars or Emmys? Emmys

Item or trend we’ll never see your star clients in? Sequin leggings

Best Dressed of the 2009 Emmys

Posted by babu 10:58am GMT

While our Best Dressed picks from the 2009 Emmys may not have taken home any gold statues last night, their first-rate style definitely stole the show. (See all the stunning dresses spotted on the Emmy red carpet in my new Emmy Lookbook.)

January Jones made a point of going for a modern Versace number to differentiate her style from her "Mad Men" character. Heidi Klum coordinated her Marchesa gown (custom made to accommodate her baby bump) to husband Seal's black tuxedo, while Christina Applegate chose an exotic deep blue dress by Lebanese designer Basil Soda.

Blake Lively in a down-to-there Versace number still managed to stand out from the matching red carpet. "Ugly Betty's" Vanessa Williams wore a flattering blue Rafael Cennamo gown, while Drew Barrymore (nominated for her part in HBO's "Grey Gardens" hit movie) floated down the red carpet in a dreamy peach chiffon Monique Lhuillier design.

Whose 2009 Emmy style do you prefer?

Eva Longoria Parker's Fashion Marathon at the 2009 ALMA Awards

Posted by babu 5:35pm GMT

Now here’s a girl who LOVES red-carpet fashion as much as we do. For her annual hosting gig for the ALMA Awards,
Eva Longoria Parker (who’s also an executive producer for the show) changed eight times last night, giving us lots of gorgeous fashion to gush over. (BTW, her stylist, Robert Verdi, told us ALL the dresses are by Latino designers — natch — from Oscar de la Renta to new up-and-coming fashion stars.)

See all eight of Eva's dresses in my lookbook and get a sneak peek at the Best Tressed stars on the ALMA red carpet.

And, don’t forget to leave a comment to win the same ALMA Awards Gift Bag (worth over $1,000) that stars Salma Hayek, Selena Gomez, Mario Lopez and Eva La Rue received.

Then, stay tuned for an EXCLUSIVE All The Looks Insider Q&A with Eva’s stylist, Robert Verdi, who will reveal how he chose all those dresses, give tips for how to get Eva's red-carpet style and “mucho mas.”
