Style Showdown: Kim Kardashian vs. Kate Beckinsale

Posted by babu 1:07pm GMT

About six months after Kate Beckinsale debuted a silk and lace Nina Ricci bandage creation at the Cannes Film Festival, Kim Kardashian decided to give the gown a go at the 2011 InStyle/Warner Brothers Golden Globes Party.

While both leading ladies gave the gown the glamorous treatment with dangling earrings, Kim's hairstyle and red lip made for a sexier ambiance, while Kate's soft waves and tawny palette lended to a more subtle, natural look. This one's a toss-up for me.

Style Showdown: Halle Berry vs. Bee Schaffer

Posted by babu 3:51pm GMT

Long before Halle Berry sent smoke signals down the red carpet in a barely-there Nina Ricci LBD at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, Bee Schaffer (a.k.a. "Vogue" editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's daughter) was working the same, sultry bustier gown at the 2009 Costume Institute Gala.

While I don't particularly like the dress (if you can even call it that) on either lady, I do prefer Halle's black on black dress and sandal pairing to Bee's navy on black peep-toe pairing, so I'm going to have to give this one to her.

Style Showdown: Christine Adams vs. Rachel Bilson

Posted by babu 1:24pm GMT

If you think enough time has gone by for you to successfully steal someone's style without getting caught, review these former showdowns, and think again.

A little over a year after Rachel Bilson debuted her colorful, printed DVF Erosa silk dress at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010 (which took place in Sept. '09), actress Christine Adams proved there's no such thing as an expiration date when it comes to style stealing by wearing the same dress to this week's 2011 Fox All-Star Party.

Because she was first (and because I don't like Christine's shoe pairing), I'm giving this one to Rachel.

Style Showdown: Ellen Pompeo vs. Nicole Richie

Posted by babu 12:23pm GMT

Ellen Pompeo recently showed her love for Nicole Richie's fashion line Winter Kate in a gold, sequined shift dress from the collection at the grand opening celebration for Marquee Nightclub in Las Vegas.

While both celebs paired the metallic sensation with black tights and pumps, I find the dress to be a much better fit for Nicole's breezy, boho-chic style, which isn't so surprising considering she herself designed it (or, as the saying goes: "The apple doesn't fall too far from the [designer's] tree").

Style Showdown: Natalie Portman vs. Taylor Swift

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

Months before Taylor Swift swept across the People's Choice Awards carpet in her peachy, pleated J. Mendel creation, Natalie Portman was modeling the dress for the Vogue January 2011 cover.

While I love this gown on both ladies and, in all fairness, we can't see the bottom half of Natalie's look, I do like how the dress works with the "Black Swan" actress's natural, tawny palette as opposed to Taylor's poppy pout.

One Designer, Two Ways: Catherine Malandrino

Posted by babu 5:00pm GMT

Kim Kardashian appeared flawless in a gold Catherine Malandrino tulip dress, chunky, gold choker and nude, peep-toe platforms at the 2011 People's Choice Awards.

If you recall, the same luxe brocade fabric was used to create the gown (also by the designer) worn by Drew Barrymore to the "Going the Distance" premiere in Los Angeles back in August.

It appears that, while both ladies were certainly going for sexy in this dress, Kim took the glamourous route, whereas Drew went for a more edgy look. So, because this is a case of comparing apples to oranges, this one's going down in my book as a tie.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Style Showdown: Chloe Moretz vs. Tinsley Mortimer

Posted by babu 11:50am GMT

Actress Chloe Moretz was a vision in a violet Christian Dior dress with beautiful lace and floral paneling at the Dior Illustrated: Rene Gruau and the Line of Beauty event in London.

If you recall, Tinsley Mortimer paired the same pretty piece (from the designer's Spring 2010 collection) with a bright pink clutch and shoes for the 7th Annual New Yorkers for Children Spring Dinner Dance back in April.

While Chloe did a good job of warming up her look with black tights for fall, the bright color and playful nature of Tinsley's accessories read hot, hot, hot!

Style Showdown: Winona Ryder vs. Alessandra Ambrosio

Posted by babu 12:42pm GMT

Just a few months before Winona Ryder made her red-carpet comeback at the "Black Swan" premiere in a lacy Dolce & Gabbana tea dress, Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio rocked the sweetheart-shaped sensation at amfAR's Milano 2010 celebration.

While Winona appeared timid (and almost scared) in the full-figured frock (see a similar Dolce & Gabbana design here), Alessandra fit right in, taking full ownership of her look from head to toe.

Style Showdown: Jenny McCarthy vs. Eva Mendes

Posted by babu 4:52pm GMT

Long before Jenny McCarthy was spotted in an asymmetrical, jacquard Stella McCartney dress at the 2010 American Music Awards, Eva Mendes sparkled in the sexy number at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

I'm going to have to give this one to Jenny because, though she is a copycat, I prefer her sleek accessories to Eva's clunky ones.

Style Showdown: Paris Hilton vs. Zoe Saldana

Posted by babu 3:43pm GMT

Well, well, well. Look who finally cleaned up her act!

A much more refined version of the Paris Hilton we all love to hate showed up to the 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last night, to which she wore a conservative, multi-print cocktail dress from the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2010 collection.

I instantly recognized the dress as being previously worn by one of my personal style crushes, Zoe Saldana, to the amfAR New York Gala back in February.

While I hate to admit it, Paris (who sassed up her look with black tights) definitely gave Zoe a run for her money. I'm going to have to call this one a tie.
