Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: A Cagey Issue Is Afoot

Posted by babu 5:21pm GMT

Did Madonna's cage mask start a trend that is trickling down to stars' feet?

Forget peep-toes and simple platforms, Spring's newest shoe trend is already a wrap as celebs Diane Kruger, Carrie Underwood, and Marion Cotillard stepped out in bear-trap heels on the red carpet this week.

But the shoe that has us fit to be tied is the knotted Burberry style Jessica Alba wore to the People's Choice Awards.

Would you wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 2:00pm GMT

Due to a lag in post-holiday pictures, and a surplus of fabulous styles at the People's Choice Awards, I'm making the Awards this week's theme. And the winners are...

Carrie Underwood
glowing in Christian Cota (Spring 2010 collection). I love the balance between the soft, sweetheart neckline and the harsh, graphic lace overlay. This was my favorite look of the night.

Taylor Swift
posing in a cream-colored Jenny Packham mini. I like how Taylor toned down her "Glinda the Good Witch" approach to wardrobing here without losing herself completely. There are sparkles in there somehere!

Katie Cassidy working it in a black and white Talbot Runhof mini. Tinsel along the one shoulder and hemline give this dress a flirty vibe. It was my other favorite look of the night.

Jessica Alba
working it in a barely-there Antonio Berardi bodice. At a closer glance, the intricate metallic mosaic print of this dress is really interesting. And the cut? Well it's just hot.

Olivia Wilde charming in a full-skirted gown by Monique Lhuillier. I was a little bit surprised to learn Olivia had chosen this dress, but impressed nonetheless. She looks so ravishingly retro that it's scary!

Check out more sensational celebrity styles in my Fab Five Looks of the Week lookbook.

Style Showdown: Anna Wintour vs. Jessica Alba

Posted by babu 6:12pm GMT

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was spotted in a velour Prada dress at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York this week. Perhaps she thought enough time had passed for us to forget that Jessica Alba wore the same dress in late Sept. Does she know who she's dealing with?!

While both ladies paired the dress with black tights and heels, I like how Jessica kept her neck bare, as Anna's necklace duo distracts attention away from the bold, rosette print.

Which leading lady is prettier in Prada?

Bells of the Ball

Posted by babu 7:01pm GMT

Since I first spotted Jessica Alba wearing this larger-than-life Dolce & Gabbana dress (above) back in 2008, I've been on a serious lookout for a bell that could trump it.

That said, you can only imagine the sense of satisfaction I felt when I recently came across this image of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada at the BBVA New Promotional Initiative Launch. Now that's a bell worth bragging about!

Less daring celebs, such as Megan Fox and Keri Hilson, have been opting for slimmer, shorter versions of the wide wonder and, while these of course manage to blend in a little easier on the red carpet, I say: "If you're gonna do it, do it right."

Would you brave a bell-bottom?

Stars and Spanx: Julianne Moore Relaxes on the Red Carpet

Posted by babu 1:01pm GMT

For celebrities, to step onto a red carpet without a least 1 - sometimes 2 - pairs of stomach-whittling Spanx is a major fashion faux pas. But how refreshing to see actress and mother of 2 Julianne Moore showing off her natural curves sans the squeeze-masters in a clingy Tom Ford dress at last month’s Venice Film Festival.

While Moore may have skipped the Spanx that evening, and we love her for it, we also love that so many stars admit - yes, in PUBLIC – that these spandex task-masters are their secret weapon to looking trim in designer dresses or getting their pre-baby body back (at least for the few hours they are on the red carpet).

Curvy women like Oprah, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian, and even skinny-minnies Gwyneth Paltrow, Isla Fisher, Eva Longoria Parker, and Jessica Alba have all given “thanx to Spanx.”

Do you give thanks to Spanx? Tell us your story in the comment section below.
