Perfect Party Dresses at the MOCA 30th Anniversary Gala

Posted by babu 2:44pm GMT

Ladies, the holiday party season is upon us, and with New Year’s Eve on the heels of all those December festivities, it’s time to get all your party frocks in a row.

To help inspire you, here is a round up of the stars who sparkled at the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) 30th Anniversary bash in L.A. on November 14 over the weekend.

Kate Beckinsale went for all out glam in a floor-grazing Andrew Gn silk dress for Spring 2010 with draping to die for and a teal shade that is so flattering for brunettes.

Christina Ricci’s Prada Spring 2010 LBD is a great example of understated chic with its retro bell shape and luxe fabric.

Eva Mendes’ tromp de l'oeil Miu Miu Spring 2010 dress combines a peachy feminine shade with black and crystal accents for a dress that would be a great investment to wear to parties year-round.

For those of you who have hit the gym all year, it’s time to show off your hard work with a skin-tight sheath like Ciara’s modern cut-out mini and perfect party shoes by Christian Louboutin.

But one of my personal favorite dresses from last night was Kate Bosworth’s versatile silk Proenza Schouler frock (Spring 2010) that looks amazing with Kate’s pointed patent heels, but I can’t wait to try the look with over-the-knee boots, tights and a well-cut menswear-inspired blazer.

Whose party frock do you prefer?

Dare to Wear: Eva Mendes

Posted by babu 12:22pm GMT

My former days as a sorority sister tell me Eva Mendes is doing the walk of shame. The actress wore this Donna Karan ensemble to the "Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans" premiere in New York and, needless to say, I was unimpressed.

While Eva usually looks polished to perfection in feminine, form-fitting sheaths, here she looks sloppy, as if she just rolled out of someone's bed (without a bra) and grabbed the nearest button-up and sheet for coverage.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Now Add This: Statement Necklaces

Posted by babu 7:49pm GMT

Have a holiday party and stuck for ideas on how to dress up items from your closet? The fastest way to update anything this season — from dresses to T-shirts — is to add a major statement necklace.

Even the most basic item, like the plain white button-down shirt Eva Mendes wore to a film premiere last night, gets attention when paired with this look-at-me accessory. And since bolder is better, you can let your personality shine through your choice of necklace. (Ahem, yes, that is an extra-large panther on gorgeous cougar Demi Moore's neck.)

If socialite Olivia Palermo’s $550 Swarovski
style
is too rich for your blood, try out this look-alike from http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalog...

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:36pm GMT

This week was all about...coming out on top. And the winners are...

Mariah Carey
in a black Zac Posen gown at the "Precious" screening in Los Angeles. Previously seen on Kate Winslet, the unique cleavage cut and body-hugging shape offer a playful take on this otherwise basic halter dress.

Leighton Meester
wearing a floral, brush-painted Prabal Gurung sheath at the 2009 Library Lions Benefit. The oversize flower made from the dress' material is so powerful that it manages to steal the spotlight away from Leighton's exquisite hair and makeup.

Beyonce
sparkling in an Atelier Versace fishtail gown at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Out of all of the Versace gowns I've seen on the red carpet lately, this one has to be my favorite. The intricacy and intensity of this dress (complete with geometric bead detailing, allover shimmer, and a fresh take on the modern-day corset), make it hard to look away.

Eva Mendes rocking a multicolored Chris Benz dress at "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" premiere in Los Angeles. Now this is one girl who knows how to have fun. The usually conservative actress kills it in a plunging sequined bodice that proves colored glitter is not longer just for kids. She gets bonus points for choosing a dress without pockets.

Katy Perry working a nude-colored Marchesa gown at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Just when you think this fearless fashionista has lost it, she goes and finds it (and then some) in something absolutely stunning. The floral lace detailing on this gown (also present on a style worn previously by Blake Lively) is almost enough to distract the eye from the perky push-up and whimsical cross-layering of fabric throughout.

Which star's top-notch style is your favorite?
