This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 2:00pm GMT

Due to a lag in post-holiday pictures, and a surplus of fabulous styles at the People's Choice Awards, I'm making the Awards this week's theme. And the winners are...

Carrie Underwood
glowing in Christian Cota (Spring 2010 collection). I love the balance between the soft, sweetheart neckline and the harsh, graphic lace overlay. This was my favorite look of the night.

Taylor Swift
posing in a cream-colored Jenny Packham mini. I like how Taylor toned down her "Glinda the Good Witch" approach to wardrobing here without losing herself completely. There are sparkles in there somehere!

Katie Cassidy working it in a black and white Talbot Runhof mini. Tinsel along the one shoulder and hemline give this dress a flirty vibe. It was my other favorite look of the night.

Jessica Alba
working it in a barely-there Antonio Berardi bodice. At a closer glance, the intricate metallic mosaic print of this dress is really interesting. And the cut? Well it's just hot.

Olivia Wilde charming in a full-skirted gown by Monique Lhuillier. I was a little bit surprised to learn Olivia had chosen this dress, but impressed nonetheless. She looks so ravishingly retro that it's scary!

One-Shoulder Wonders at the 2010 People's Choice Awards

Posted by babu 2:26pm GMT

While average Joe's (and Jane's) picked their favorite actors, films and TV shows at last night's People's Choice Awards event, stars were casting their own votes for their favorite fashion of the night: one-shoulder dresses. This distinct style, which took hold in 2009, was "most popular" on the red carpet last night based on the number of stars who wore the asymmetrical style to the event:

Sandra Bullock, collected her award for Favorite Movie Actress (for "The Proposal") in a gold-on-gold floral-patterned Vivienne Westwood gown.

The always beaming and beautiful Olivia Wilde of "House" rocked it in a feminine, retro-looking Monique Lhuillier dress.

And Ginnifer Goodwin, who presented the award for Favorite Male Artist to Nicole Kidman's husband Keith Urban, stood out in a mix of stripes and floral accents by Christian Lacroix.

The star of the soon sure-to-be people's favorite movie remake, "The Karate Kid," Taraji P. Henson chose a solid Alberta Ferretti floor-grazer that looked delicious in pale pink.

And funny actress Jenna Elfman, whose new TV comedy "Accidentally, On Purpose" was nominated for Favorite New Comedy, barely looked 8 months pregnant when seen straight on in her black jersey dress.

Whose one-shoulder dress from the 2010 People's Choice Awards is your favorite?

Trend to Try: Nude Heels

Posted by babu 11:01pm GMT

Stepping out in the nude was ideal for summer (check out when
January Jones topped off her sunshine yellow dress with buff heels), but few would have thought the style would carry over into cooler weather and still rule the red carpet.

During a recent chat with Eva Longoria Parker’s stylist Robert Verdi, the king of color says, “A neutral nude heel is unexpected – especially with bright dresses where people tend to lean towards a metallic shoe.”

So, as you start to shop for that holiday party dress this season, consider skipping all that’s silver and gold and get into the buff.

Do you own a pair of nude heels?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:00pm GMT

This week was all about...presumptuous shapes, perfect fit. And the winners are...

Shenae Grimes in a black and cream, striped Sass & Bide dress at the "Whip It" premiere in Los Angeles. This one reminds me of the similarly-striped Louis Vuitton dress worn by Leighton Meester to this year's Teen Choice Awards.

Kerry Washington in a silk, Zuhair Murad Fall 2009 Couture dress belted at the waist at the 57th San Sebastian Film Festival Closing Ceremony. I can't decide which detailing I value more--that of her ruched blouse or her printed skirt.

Victoria Beckham in a black, William Tempest dress at the launch of David Beckham’s new Adidas clothing line, the Beckham by J. Bond Collection. So Posh, so sexy.

Olivia Wilde in a grey Helmut Lang sheath worn during a visit to the "Late Show With David Letterman." Olivia's cropped, asymmetrical leather jacket adds an edgy touch to this otherwise conservative look.

Keri Hilson in a bright red, bell-shaped strapless dress by D&G at the 2009 MOBO Awards. She ups the ante with super-sparkly heels.

Which star's classy style makes the cut?

Great Greys Ahead

Posted by babu 10:04am GMT

Stars are always so perfectly put-together whenever they stop by the “Late Show with David Letterman” to chat with funnyman Dave. And the outfit of choice this week for celebs is a chic, polished yet modern grey dress.

I adore everything about Kim Kardashian’s look: the curve-highlighting Emanuel Ungaro design, Kim's gorgeous retro side-swept hair, and the pop of color on her nails that is so on trend.

Actress (and Italian princess) Olivia Wilde’s nude-colored heels look like she took a page from our recent post on how to soften the look of tough leather.

And “How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan’s knee-length number is flattering for so many body types: full busts have plenty of room; not-so-toned arms have a place to hide; and the shirring will easily hide any belly.
