Rule Breaker or Trend Maker: Lindsay Lohan’s Fashion Tales

Posted by babu 9:21pm GMT

Poor Lindsay Lohan. First her parents air all of their dysfunctional dirty laundry via the press and Twitter updates, and now she’s been spotted around town with an odd appendage growing from her backside.

While Lindsay’s love of leggings did eventually catch on with the rest of the fashion world, this new trend doesn’t seem to have many fans – except potentially Kate Bosworth, who already wore a trailing tail from Olivier Theyskens’ Nina Ricci Spring 2009 line earlier this year.

What do you think of Lindsay's trailing tails?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Lingerie Looks

Posted by babu 12:19am GMT

Chloë Sevigny and Zoe Saldana share more than just slightly unusual names and both hailing from New York.

Obviously, both stars also have a love of Prada and the latest bra-friendly looks that walked the designer's Spring 2010 runway when they showed up at the recent Prada book launch in L.A. in ensembles that left little to the imagination.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Tinsel Town

Posted by babu 10:35pm GMT

If you ever need to check your lipstick but left your mirror at home, feel free to call on one of these stars. We’ve seen a lot sparkle on and off the red carpet lately –but I’m just not a fan of foil as evening (or day) wear.

Dakota Fanning’s sequin target="_blank">Elizabeth and James top is actually quite sweet for a teen drama queen, especially when paired with low-key jeans and Converse. And while we expect Katy Perry to be in costume even if it’s not Halloween, target="_blank">Gwyneth Paltrow’s blinding target="_blank">Alice & Olivia trench is a style departure for her usual demure looks. Or, maybe she’s just anticipating lots of left-overs at Thanksgiving.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Ballerina Girls

Posted by babu 8:09pm GMT

What girl who takes a dance class didn't want to grow up to be a ballerina? Obviously, some stars and a few designers definitely did, since tutus and ballet shoes have danced their way across the red carpet more than a few times.

Katy Perry looked ready to perform "Swan Lake" rather than hold a press conference last night for the MTV European Music Awards. Her pale blush feather dress is by Jenny Packham while the shoes that make her look like she's on pointe are Louis Vuitton.

Model Daisy Lowe wore an adorable (and quite wearable) ballerina-inspired look by Louis Vuitton to attend the fashion house's Spring runway show in Paris a month ago, while Megan Fox was in ample pink tulle for the 2008 MTV Music Awards.

However, who could ever forget (well, maybe you did, so here is a pic to remind you) Lara Flynn Boyle's famous night as prima donna of the red carpet at the 2003 Golden Globes.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Cool Coral

Posted by babu 8:22pm GMT

When I first saw Whitney Port
’s adorable peach Marc Jacobs
dress on the red carpet in Las Vegas, I loved it, but I definitely would not have predicted that the cool hue would become a hot color for fall.

At last night’s 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala, both Zooey Deschanel (in a Luella Spring 2010 design) and Julianne Moore picked pale peach dresses and chose black accents to set off the beautiful coral shade.

Part of pulling off this look just right lies in the right accessories: Choose either contrasting black to play up the color, or soft metallics that complement and won’t compete against the mouthwatering color.

How do you feel about pale peach for fall and winter?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Boning Dresses

Posted by babu 7:04pm GMT

Maybe we have the Halloween season to thank for this latest red carpet craze, but these sexy dresses featuring lingerie-inspired boning are anything buy scary.

Kerry Washington
's sleek Calvin Klein number creates a sexy yet delicate effect, while London-based designer Christopher Kane's dresses on Whitney Port and Emma Watson use the same effect to create futuristic fashion.

that calls out singer Eve's body-conscious Dolce & Gabanna choice.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: A Shorts Story for Fall

Posted by babu 11:39pm GMT

While the rest of us on the East Coast start to bundle up in layers, LA celebs are still rocking shorts for the red carpet.
Whitney Port and Rachel Bilson work the high-low style by pairing luxe designer bags with low key cool shorts at fashion events in LA. And actresses Rose Byrne and Gwyneth Paltrow (already a trendsetter back in February of this year) added a bit of shine to their hot pants.

How do you feel about the cold-weather shorts trend?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Gwyneth Paltrow's Jeggings

Posted by babu 10:03am GMT

When Queen of Cool Clothes designer Stella McCartney (above right) was spotted her "jeggings" on a stroll in London recently, there was an online discussion over the jeans-meets-leggings style at New York Magazine's The Cut.

But we knew for certain that jeggings were set to replace skinnies for Spring 2010 once we saw the designer's BFF Gwyneth Paltrow wear a similar pair to attend McCartney's Paris fashion show this past weekend.

But before you squeeze yourself into the trend, see other celebs in jeggings and how they get the look right -- and wrong -- in my new Jeggings lookbook and vote on your favorite pics.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: White Shoes After Labor Day

Posted by babu 3:36pm GMT

Personally, I happen to love these wild white boots worn by stars Charlize Theron and Leighton Meester well into the weeks after summer's official end.

Only time will tell if this style faux pas will become a fall fashion must-do, but for now, I am giving the green light to white shoes after Labor Day.
