Trend to Try: Abstract Prints

Posted by babu 5:30pm GMT

As of late, it feels like I've been watching the red carpet through a kaleidoscope.

Stars like Amanda Seyfried, Leighton Meester and, most recently, Anna Paquin have been rocking bursts of color and shapes that put even the most captivating of screensavers to shame.

Check out this style steal (below) from Lipsy London, and find more celebrity prints on All the Looks.

With or Without Wings?

Posted by babu 5:38pm GMT

In recent weeks, wardrobe wings have been taking off among celebs like Amber Rose (in Christian Siriano), Rihanna (in Viktor & Rolf) and Leona Lewis (in Stella McCartney).

What's your take on the high flying fashion statement?

Trend to Try: Belted Dresses

Posted by babu 8:44am GMT

Having a hard time trying to decide how to accessorize that new dress?

Take a tip from stars Zoe Saldana, Rachel Weisz and Claire Danes who prove that a simple belt topping a flirty dress is a cinch to get great style.

From Saldana's solid-topped floral to Dane's bejeweled belt over a simple sheath, almost any combination yields a red carpet-worthy look.

Trend to Try: Serious Blazers Top Flirty Skirts

Posted by babu 11:10pm GMT

Layering up for the cold weather doesn't mean your style has to get buried along the way.

Take inspiration from stars who have have achieved their fashion honors with a mix of serious structured blazers on top and party-ready skirts below. Together, these perfect partners create a variety of functional yet flirty ensembles.

Jennifer Connelly's recent smart navy jacket balances a bold print skirt and funky heels, which stand out against dark tights, for a cool modern effect.

Nicole Kidman shows off how to wear a similar look in warmer climates with shades of cream and white, bare legs and neutral heels.

And the reigning queen of mix-and-match style, Olivia Palermo, blends an edgy leather blazer (topped with a few unexpected ladylike brooches) with a classic black skirt and ultra-feminine lace tights.

Whose chic blazer and flirty skirt combo would you wear?

Trend to Try: Studded Heels

Posted by babu 12:56pm GMT

Get em' while they're hot! Celebrities like Blake Lively, Katie Cassidy and Sienna Miller (believe me-the list goes on) are adding a little pep to their step with seriously studded stilettos, pumps and booties.

While the popular Christian Louboutin Pigalle Studs (worn by Blake (above) and Rihanna) will set you back about $1000 and the Rock and Republic Nika Pump (worn by Katie (above) and Rumer Willis) about $300, I found some affordable and equally fab versions at Macy's (Marc Fisher "Sal" pumps, $89) and Forever 21 (Studded Pumps, $29.80).

Pair them with tights and a wool trench and say so long to those frumpy wardrobe days of winters past.

Trend to Try: Gold/Black

Posted by babu 6:16pm GMT

One of the things I'm looking to get my hands on this holiday party season is a LGBD (you know, little gold/black dress?!).

Ranging from barely-there flecks to power-coating, there's no denying gold/black is the new black/black, and the more burnished the better.

Perhaps it all started with Charlize Theron's increasingly duplicated Lanvin dress and then the gold rubbed down the red carpet from there. I just hope the rich-girl-meets-bad-boy trend, which has been adopted by designer labels like Donna Karan, Camilla and Marc and French Connection (black metallics were also the recent focus of the MAC Black campaign), is here to stay.

Trend to Try: Cheerful Magenta Dresses

Posted by babu 11:48am GMT

Got the winter blues? Then time to try out a magenta-hued dress for your next night out to pick up your spirits. I mean, how can you NOT be happy and beaming in this fun fuchsia shade?

Kerry Washington was the latest to try to the trend with her origami Marchesa dress at the Broadway opening of the play “Race” in NYC, while Marisa Tomei turned up in a very "Mad Men" 1950s vintage Jean Desses Haute Couture at the MOCA museum anniversary celebration in LA. Weeks earlier, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon both chose designs from L’Wren Scott exactly a month apart.

Trend to Try: Classic Celeb-Approved Daytime Looks

Posted by babu 6:44pm GMT

Stars dressed demurely for the recent Hollywood Reporter's Annual Women In Entertainment breakfast which was co-sponsored by our very own Lifetime network on December 4.

The look du jour included simple silhouettes in classic colors like Eva Longoria Parker's scoop neck navy Loewe dress and Halle Berry's tweed Giambattista Valli suit.

I love that each celeb, including Hilary Swank in a minimalist jersey dress, skipped the statement accessories for this prestigious event and let their classic, chic heels and great smiles take center stage.

Trend to Try: Understated Styles

Posted by babu 12:39am GMT

In a winter fashion season rife with statement necklaces and electric dress hues, it was refreshing to see some more understated looks on the red carpet recently.

Over the weekend, to attend a Dizzy Feet charity event, Katie Holmes tamed a rocker moto jacket with a soft shade and paired it with a simple LBD which let her Givenchy heels stand out.

Always stunning Gwyneth Paltrow accessorized a simple draped Donna Karan dress with only bright red lips.

Meanwhile, last week, Jennifer Aniston, in Morrocco for the opening of a luxury hotel, stuck with her classic simple style in a backless black sheath and minimal jewelry.

Trend to Try: Natalie Portman's Rainbow Brights

Posted by babu 1:19am GMT

Maybe I won't actually mix four completely different shades to pull off my next party look, but seeing Natalie Portman, at a NYC screening of her film "Brothers," definitely makes me crave her candy-colored style.

Her recent Jason Wu dress and electric-hued accessories (including $80 Aldo Segura peeptoe heels) is proof that with simple styling, shockingly bright shades can look downright demure.
