Banana Prints: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 11:07am GMT

Fashion influences like Anna Wintour and Giovanna Battaglia are adding a touch of tropical to their everyday styles with banana-print skirts.

While Prada is responsible for sparking the trend (both skirts shown are from Prada's Spring 2011 RTW collection, which also features a peel-baring button-up), fast fashion brands have been quick to jump on the banana wagon (get the effect with Topshop's Banana Print Leggings).

What's your take on banana prints?

Colored Denim: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 2:31pm GMT

Bold fashionistas like Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ashley Greene are taking the casual approach to the color-blocking trend by mixing their favorite tees with saturated shades of denim.

While I'm still a bit weary of pastels and neons, a primary-hued pair (as shown above) tends to add just enough punch without looking too juvenile.

Literal Animal Prints: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 3:21pm GMT

Who let the dogs out?!

From soft swans to riley rottweilers, celebs like Katy Perry, Liv Tyler and Ginnifer Goodwin are reshaping the animal-print trend by incorporating full-form animals and animal features into their everyday styles.

While I'm all for animal advocacy, especially when it comes to fashion, I can't help but think these carnal creations belong in captivity.

What's your take on literal animal prints?

Studded Trench Coats: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 2:02pm GMT

With a little help from Burberry, stars like Julie Ordon, Kim Kardashian and Emma Watson are taking a fresh (and fierce) approach to one of Spring's hottest style staples with heavy hardware (spikes included).

What's your take on studded trench coats?

Wearing Teen Boys Clothing: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 4:49pm GMT

While I was ogling the girly goods (think gold lame skirts, floral prints and sweater tights) at the recent fall preview for Johnnie b, Boden's new teen line, my more senior producer (whose usual Boden purchase includes a purple cardigan or two) couldn't help but fall for the rugged knits and patterns from the Johnnie b Teen Boys offerings.

At the end of the day, the skinny-jeans clad mother of two walked away with both the Bomber Jacket (shown above) and the Hooded Cardigan, and was left pining for the faux-fur trimmed Trapper Hat (also shown above), all from the Teen Boys collection.

What's your take on wearing boys clothing?

Do you think this take on the menswear trend is on the juvenile side or, like Melissa, do you adhere more to the rule "If the shoe (or son's soft, totally on-trend sweater) fits, wear it?" Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Color-Coordinating With Your Sis: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 2:08pm GMT

Every gal knows there are two things you don't steal from another woman: 1) her man and 2) her outfit.

But what if you don't wear the same outfit to an event, but rather the same color combo?!

Apparently, color-coordinating is fair game for Kim Kardashian and big sis Kourtney, both of whom coordinated khaki-green and black ensembles for the recent opening of their new store Kardashian Kaos.

Would YOU color-coordinate with your sister or one of your girlfriends for a big night out? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Peekaboo Dresses: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 4:55pm GMT

From the plush push-ups of stars like Lady Gaga, Kelly Osbourne and Amy Winehouse to the dainty demis sported as of late by Lea Michele (in Giambattista Valli) and Ashley Greene (in Antonio Berardi), it seems everywhere I look, I get flashed.

Call me crazy, but something inside me is itching to show a little lace too. The question becomes: how much and where?!

What's your take on peekaboo dresses?

Trend or Foe: Thigh-High Boots

Posted by babu 9:00am GMT

Are Jery Sandoval, Iman and Victoria Beckham ready for the catwalk, or the street-walk?! Long since the days of "Pretty Woman," thigh-high boots have exploded on and off the red carpet scene, but some (including myself) might argue that these city slickers belong on the corner.

See more celebrities wearing thigh-high boots, and find out how many werewolves were actually surrounding Iman, in this hilarious lookbook by Project Rungay bloggers Tom and Lorenzo.

Trend or Foe: Cheetah Booties

Posted by babu 1:25pm GMT

Sacha Baron Cohen: fashion muse? Ever since the actor made his debut at this year's MTV Movie Awards as Australian fashion reporter alter-ego Bruno in a pair of mid-calf cheetah booties, more and more celebs have been wearing more sophisticated, yet equally ambitious, versions.

Among those celebs who've been "spotted" are Jessica Szohr, Rihanna and, most recently, Khloe Kardashian, who rocked a pair of Christian Louboutin Bridget Lace Ankle Boots (with cheetah-print heels and stems), $1,795, at the Famous Cupcakes Beverly Hills Grand Opening.

I did a little legwork and found similar, and more affordable, styles at DSW, Bakers and Zappos.

What is your take on cheetah booties?
