Red-Carpet Recap: Life Ball 2010

Posted by babu 4:23pm GMT

This year's Life Ball, the biggest charity event in Europe supporting people with HIV or AIDS, took place in Vienna, Austria this past weekend.

While there was only a handful of celeb attendees, Dita Von Teese stood out in a yellow satin Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture gown with intricate jewel detailing along the lower abdomen.

She was joined by Rebecca Romijn, who sparkled in a plunging gown covered in red sequins that illuminated gold in the presence of light.

Which star's Life Ball look is your fave?

Dare to Wear: Dita Von Teese

Posted by babu 5:31pm GMT

Dita Von Teese
recently walked the runway at the Jean Paul Gaultier show during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week wearing a corset and thigh-highs.

While it wasn't a total shocker (she is a burlesque performer, after all), I still couldn't help but think it was a little over-the-top, even for Fashion Week.

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:49pm GMT

This week was all about color. And the winners are...

Keke Palmer in a plunging ADAM mini at the Kids' Choice Awards. The round pops of color all over this dress remind me of little gumballs.

Emmy Rossum rocking a red Donna Karan number at The Darker Side of Green Climate Change Debate. Emmy added extra kick to her saucy, off-the-shoulder dress with feathered heels (from the same designer).

Selena Gomez
in a bright yellow Christian Cota dress at the Kids' Choice Awards. A gold belt and gladiator sandals gave this dress a grecian glam feel.

Dita von Teese ravishing in a red Elie Saab gown at the Crazy Horse Paris at MGM Grand. The unique neckline and draping on this gown are just gorgeous.

Victoria Justice
in a mint-green Catherine Malandrino dress at the Kids' Choice Awards. I love the ruching on this dress, as well as the star's edgy Alexander Wang zipper booties.

Which star's colorful creation is your favorite?

Dare to Wear: Dita Von Teese

Posted by babu 4:18pm GMT

Dita Von Teese
sported a lacy, wide-legged bodysuit designed by Dolce & Gabbana at the recent Cointreaupolitan Cocktail Party in Milan.

While I am a big fan of lace when used in small quantities, this is just overkill. She looks like she's wearing an antique tablecloth.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Pseudo See-Through Dresses

Posted by babu 6:48pm GMT

Perhaps it’s celebs taking advantage of global warming. Or maybe it’s the sheer sassiness of sheer styles. Either way, the latest naked trend keeps the red carpet cool while making guys drool. And last week, two celebs, an ocean apart, went for the invisible effect on the same day!

In England, Dita Von Teese teased fans at the London NRJ Music Awards in her
Jean Paul Gaultier cocktail dress, completed with matching see-through pumps. While in America, Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed up at the recent SAG Awards in a complex Dolce & Gabbana gown featuring three fabrics of different textures.

And gorgeous Haitian-born actress
Garcelle Beauvais wore a simpler version of the trompe-l'oeil trend to a
Golden Globes after-party.

What do you think of sheer dresses?

One Designer, Two Ways: Christian Dior

Posted by babu 11:37am GMT

Eva Mendes looked cute as a button at the 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund event wearing a polka-dotted Christian Dior Resort 2010 sheath, made from the same fabric as a Dior dress worn by Dita Don Teese during Paris Fashion Week just a few weeks earlier.

While I think this periwinkle shade and polka-dot print suit both ladies, I much prefer the classy cut (and adorable, bowed belt) of Eva's pick to the harsh gathering and plunge of Dita's. I also think the floral accents on Dita's design are a bit gaudy (her signature red lipstick doesn't help).

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Four Ways to Wear: Leather Ladies

Posted by babu 3:20pm GMT

We may never know who ushered in the trend for good this fall (Kaiser Karl, perhaps), but once style icon Kate Moss was spotted at the Miu Miu show during Paris Fashion Week in head-to-toe leather, designers everywhere started reaching for leather, pleather and anything that exudes biker chic.

Moss and Dita von Teese
turned up the heat for fall in snug leather dresses, while MTV’s most stylish couple Whitney Port
and Kristin Cavallari mixed black leather with muted tops and feminine buff-colored bags.

Will you try this trend?

Red Carpet to Real Life: Rodarte for Target Stores

Posted by babu 11:29am GMT

Since it was announced a few months ago that the sister team Kate and Laura Mulleavy behind the avant-garde fashion line Rodarte would create a collection for Target, I have been anticipating seeing what they would come up with. Wait no more!

Images of the new line from the editors’ preview just hit the internet, so you can do a little pre-shopping before the items reach Target stores on December 20 this year.

Based on the pics, the affordable new collection will contain lots of deconstructed and layered tulle dresses, similar to the styles we have seen on the red carpet, in addition to the trendy neon leopard prints that having been spotted prowling awards shows.

Will you buy Rodarte's affordable designs for Target?
