Downgrade: Amanda Seyfried Goes Green

Posted by babu 5:50pm GMT

I was in a please-pinch-me daze when I first spotted Amanda Seyfried glowing in her princess-perfect Armani Prive gown before the Oscars ceremony.

That said, you can imagine my disappointment when I learned that, post-awards, she'd traded in her fairy-tale fashion for what appeared to be a pile of seaweed (from the Versace Spring 2010 collection).

It looks like the actress is headed down a slippery slope.

Is this star's recent look an "upgrade" or a "downgrade" from her last one?

Upgrade: Olsens Straighten Up

Posted by babu 3:24pm GMT

I was a little shocked to see how put together the Olsen twins looked at JCPenney's Best of Spring Showcase, especially after seeing them looking their haggard selves not even two weeks ago at the ELLE Style Awards.

Mary-Kate (left) wore a large Dries Van Noten blazer cinched at the waist, whereas Ashley opted for a modified piece from the Jil Sander 2010 collection. Both accessorized with tights and boots.

I think what impressed me most was that they both brushed their hair.

Are the Olsens' latest looks "upgrades" or "downgrades" from their last?

Upgrade: Emily Blunt Goes Greek

Posted by babu 2:48pm GMT

Some may disagree that "Wolfman" star Emily Blunt's Grecian Kaufman Franco gown, which she wore to her film's premiere, is an upgrade from the Naeem Khan creation worn on the red carpet at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

But, in the words of one of our favorite "Project Runway" judges, designer Michael Kors, the long-sleeved, to-the-knee, conservative dress is too "M.O.B." (Mother of the Bride) for a 27-year-old like Blunt.

Upgrade: Lea Michele Gets Her Color Back

Posted by babu 1:40pm GMT

In a different color, the Herve Leroux gown "Glee" actress Lea Michele wore January 30 to a Director's Guild event would have been worthy of an Oscar red carpet appearance. But the flat beige color did nothing for the actress and completely washed her out.

So, I was so thrilled to see Michele trade the dull drab style for the fun, flirty feathered Romona Kevesa dress just a day later, which even landed her in our Grammy Best Dressed list.

Downgrade: Anne Hathaway's Sloppy Suit Is a Washout

Posted by babu 3:51pm GMT

As someone who regularly takes the award for "Best Dressed" on the red carpet, how could Anne Hathaway even consider announcing the nominees this morning for this year's Oscars in such an unflattering and drab Chloe suit?

Not that Anne needs to be dressed in the color of an Easter egg to be nominated for her own style award.

For example, in Paris, just last week, the actress stunned fans in a chic -- yet colorless -- Giorgio Armani look during the designer's recent couture show.

Downgrade: Scarlett Johansson's Frumpy Floral Frock

Posted by babu 3:07pm GMT

We haven't seen the lovely Scarlett Johansson on the red carpet in MONTHS since she started rehearsals for the Arthur Miller play "A View From the Bridge."

While theater critics praised her performance, we Scar-Jo fashion fans were confused by the mousy grandma dress she wore for the play's premiere this week. Her frumpy frock looked like the costume for the post-war Italian-American betrothed character she plays on stage.

Not that Johansson can't wow us in retro looks: At her last big red-carpet moment, the star looked divine in a perfect pencil skirt by Mango, her namesake red lips and romantic curls.

Upgrade: Jennifer Lopez Busts Free From Her Sad Style Rut

Posted by babu 12:14pm GMT

Finally! Jenny from The Block returned home to her fabulous designer style at a party last night in NYC to celebrate the new book "About Face" from her own makeup artist, Scott Barnes.

In the last days of 2009 and the first few days of 2010, Jennifer Lopez has me scratching my head trying to figure out what she was doing in all those wack-a-doo get ups --from a denim jumpsuit (wha?! NOT flattering for ANY body) to a weird nudie-suit and belted moo-moo number.

But thanks to the to-die-for Louis Vuitton bustier dress and killer Christian Louboutin heels she wore to the party, we can forget about all the fugly fashions that came before.

Do you think Jennifer Lopez's latest red carpet look is an Upgrade?

Downgrade: Malin Akerman's Shredded Style

Posted by babu 5:02pm GMT

After seeing "Couples Retreat" actress
Malin Akerman in this shredded Max Azria dress, I am a little embarrassed I claimed I was obsessed with her consistently fabulous style choices.

The ultra-chic LBD she wore in London just a few months ago looked inspired by style icon Audrey Hepburn.

But the plunging design she wore last night to a Golden Globes after-party could have been borrowed from an '80s-obsessed "Rock of Love" cast member.

Upgrade: Bridget Marquardt Cuts Out The Color

Posted by babu 11:55am GMT

While something tells me costume-loving "Girls Next Door" star Bridget Marquardt will have more Dare To Wear moments in her future, we are glad to see she ditched the carnival can-can girl get-up that landed her in the All The Looks DTW this week.

While no one would think of taking fashion advice from a Playboy Bunny (considering the lack of clothes required for the job), Ms. Marquardt, after her quick fashion recovery, proves that everybody (even bunnies) looks chic in a well-fitting LBD.

Downgrade: Lindsay Lohan's Peek-A-Boo Polka Dots

Posted by babu 1:08pm GMT

Oh, Miss Lindsay Lohan, has it really been a mere four years since your innocent self was all over the red carpet in sweet dresses that revealed a little skin, but never let it all hang out in the way you do now? I still remember the young girl who gushed over her pricey-yet-still-modest Chanel dresses.

Who knew that young woman would grow up and advocate side-boob cleavage and pasties as acceptable ready-to-wear.

Would you wear this look?
