One Designer, Two Ways: Stella McCartney

Posted by babu 5:08pm GMT

This ATL Insider post is dedicated to all the ladies out there (myself included) who've dared question the expression "less is more."

Not even two weeks after Thandie Newton looked fierce in a fuchsia Stella McCartney blouse and skirt duo at the Vanishing on 7th Street After Party in Toronto, Jennifer Garner surprised onlookers with the souped up (to say the least) version, complete with countless strands of pearls and suede, fuchsia platforms, at the 6th Annual Pink Party.

Not only was Jennifer's look overcrowded with busy and unflattering accessories, I much prefer the matching skirt to the bright white, which looks like it was taken from one of  the "Austin Powers" sets.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Style Showdown: Jennifer Garner vs. Rihanna

Posted by babu 4:45pm GMT

Jennifer Garner
wore a sexy Stella McCartney LBD to "The Town" Premiere during the 35th Toronto International Film Festival, which was first debuted by Rihanna back in mid-August.

It's interesting to see how the dress takes on a completely different role on each woman, appearing soft and feminine on Jennifer and edgier on Rihanna.

Who looked sexier in Stella McCartney?

Downgrade: Cameron Diaz Loses Her Skirt

Posted by babu 4:14pm GMT

Cameron Diaz looked white-hot in a ruffled Bottega Veneta shift dress cinched at the waist at the premiere of "Knight and Day" in Munich yesterday.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the actress's London premiere look, which consisted of a Stella McCartney sweater, and nothing else. While the piece is actually sold as a dress, without a belt to create body or accessories to add dimension, it just sort of fell flat (face-first) on the red carpet.

Style Showdown: Kelly Ripa vs. Sarah Jessica Parker

Posted by babu 3:58pm GMT

Kelly Ripa and Sarah Jessica Parker were both spotted wearing the same Stella McCartney sheath while out and about on separate occasions in New York.

Both stars looked great (and even accessorized with similar chain necklaces), but I like how Kelly forewent a cover-up so that onlookers could see all of the dress's lacy details.

Style Showdown: Jane vs. Stella

Posted by babu 6:16pm GMT

Jane Krakowski celebrated spring with a floral Stella McCartney dress at the Actors Fund Annual Gala last night.

The same dress was donned by Stella McCartney herself at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition Preview Party last year.

While both ladies paired the dress with black sandals, the dress and sash seem to fit Stella better overall. Perhaps that's just one of the perks of being the designer.

Who looked more fab in florals?

Dare to Wear: Leona Lewis

Posted by babu 5:04pm GMT

Is Leona Lewis the next Batgirl?

The singer, who can usually be sighted sporting slightly different variations of the same Vivienne Westwood gown over and over again, rocked a black, wing-shouldered Stella McCartney dress recently at a Harper's Bazaar presentation.

While I'm sure she was hoping the look would take off, it instead plummeted.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Super-Sized Sweaters

Posted by babu 3:45pm GMT

Forget flannel, plaid and hoodies. When it come to lazy Sundays and wet winter days, stars are cozying up to giant over-sized sweaters to create low key, laid back looks.

Model and mom Claudia Schiffer pulled out her Fall 2008 Malene Birger knit from the back of the closet in order to drop the kids off at school in London.

Also in London, celeb fashion designer Stella McCartney wears one of her own creations (for sale, here, for 50% off), to run errands on a rainy day.

And adorable Vanessa Hudgens topped her floral frock with an overgrown cardi while on a coffee run in LA a few weeks ago.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: "Sheggings," The New "Jeggings"

Posted by babu 9:55am GMT

First, there were leggings, made famous by constantly being worn by Lindsay Lohan. Then, Gwyneth Paltrow and other stars introduced us to "jeggings."
And today, I announce the official creation of "sheggings" --where shoes and leggings have merged into a single item of clothing.

Penelope Cruz flirted with the idea of "sheggings" at her "Nine" premiere last November with a barely discernible difference between her pants and shiny latex-like OTK (over-the-knee) boots.

But it was Diane Kruger (wearing a look from Karl Lagerfeld) and trend-lover Blake Lively (in Stella McCartney laser-cut shoe-stockings) who went for the new all-in-one effect on the very same day.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Gwyneth Paltrow's Jeggings

Posted by babu 10:03am GMT

When Queen of Cool Clothes designer Stella McCartney (above right) was spotted her "jeggings" on a stroll in London recently, there was an online discussion over the jeans-meets-leggings style at New York Magazine's The Cut.

But we knew for certain that jeggings were set to replace skinnies for Spring 2010 once we saw the designer's BFF Gwyneth Paltrow wear a similar pair to attend McCartney's Paris fashion show this past weekend.

But before you squeeze yourself into the trend, see other celebs in jeggings and how they get the look right -- and wrong -- in my new Jeggings lookbook and vote on your favorite pics.

Style Showdown: Miranda Kerr vs. Kate Walsh

Posted by babu 10:00am GMT

The Victoria's Secret model worked it in a purple and red
Stella McCartney dress and nude heels during Fashion's Night Out. "Private Practice" star Kate Walsh wore the same dress, also with peep-toes, to the "Hangover" premiere.

I would've personally loved to see this color-block dress paired with some long, chunky pearl strands or some oversized bangles (Kate's choker necklace hides the blouse's delicate neckline).
