Describe your family?
Yes I can, in one word: actors.
Costume construction for Broadway.
Makeup artist for editorials, runway shows, etc., for about 10 years.
When did you realize you had designer potential?
When I was color-coordinating my clothes in elementary school.
First garment you ever made?
I made it when I was about 14 or so. It was a wool tweed high-waisted A-line skirt with a slit in the back.
What's your design training/schooling, etc.?
A degree at FIDM LA.
Strengths as a designer?
My fine hand.
Weaknesses as a designer?
What are your influences?
Music and the style that goes with said music. I've always had a very close-knit relationship with the two. I find they go hand in hand with creating a look.
What's playing on your iPod when you're designing?
Either opera, electro or Broadway musicals. Or a combination of...
Favorite material or fabric to work with?
I find myself gravitating toward upholstery fabrics. They always have the best prints!
Item you're most proud of designing?
My 2-D outfit for the famous New York drag queen Acid Betty.
Viktor & Rolf, McQueen, Mugler (original house), Rick Owens, Galliano, Gareth Pugh, Westwood, Comme Des Garcons….
Sketch or drape?
Patterns or solids?
Patterns, large ones!
A nice muted violet.
Biggest fear as a designer?
I always need to learn more!
A COMPLETE look. Not just clothes, but the hair and makeup done too!
Fashion faux pas that drives you crazy?
UGGS! and this crazy LAZY fad where people think sweatsuits are fashion! I gag when I see people in public in their pajamas.
Ugliest item of clothing/accessory you've worn?
I was into the '70s look when I was younger… ugh.
Favorite style icon?
What would you design for the First Lady?
Definitely something a bit younger and less hyper-conservative. Classy with an edge.
Celebrity you wish you could design for?
Tilda Swinton. I would love to just go to town and drape like 30 yards of fabric in one dress especially with the asymmetrical feel she works on the red carpet. Love it.
Favorite supermodel muse?
She's not really around anymore, but I always loved Nadja Auermann's look, especially when she bleached her eyebrows!
If you had to name your label, you'd call it...?
I named it Alexander Pope already.
If you weren't designing, you'd be...?
I have no idea… I would be designing.
Places/cultures you wish you could design for?
I live for Europe. I've been to London and just fell in love. I find myself inspired by English designers; I guess that makes me an Anglomaniac.
Dream place to set up your business?
New York is perfect.
Websites that feature your work?
How did you end up auditioning for PR?
This is my first time auditioning, and my close friend convinced me to.
Favorite past PR designer?
Challenge you wish they'd bring back?
I like the "design something for Heidi" challenge. I mean, come on, she's a supermodel!
Challenge you hope they don't?
Designing for old/overweight people.
Your take on team challenges:?
Neither. I think they could be interesting, because sometimes a collaboration could be gold.
What do you look for in a model?
Height for sure; I like them tall. I find that I choose blondes more, and the most important thing is their walk. I just can't get past that if it isn't up to par.
Do you think you can win "Project Runway"?
I think I can. I bring not only fashion but a pretty extensive costume background to the table, and I think that knowledge really helps me design some creatively interesting clothing...
