When did you realize you had designer potential?

I've always been pretty crafty, but it was when I was encouraged to push my work further as a student at RISD that I realized I had designer potential.

First garment you ever made?

One of my first garments was probably when I sewed neckties into the side seams of my pants .

What's your design training/schooling, etc.?

BFA in painting and art history, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. MFA textile design, Rhode Island School of Design.

Strengths as a designer?

Risk taker, unconventional thinker and material exploration.

Weaknesses as a designer?

Sometimes I make stuff that's just too strange.

What are your influences?

I'm pretty much inspired by everything, ranging from antiques to rocks to the unknown.

What's playing on your iPod when you.re designing?

Sonic Youth, Robyn, Adult, Hole, White Ring, Jay-Jay Johanson, Jens Lekman, Hunx and His Punx, Asa-Chang and Junray, Slowdive, Elasté: Slow Motion Disco, Black Devil and more!

Favorite material or fabric to work with?

Yarn and paint!

Item you're most proud of designing?

The knitted dress-and-cardigan look from my thesis collection that the RISD museum bought for their permanent collection.

JC de Castelbajac, Walter van Beirendonck, Lanvin, Moonspoon Saloon, Christian Lacroix, Rei Kawakubo, Henrik Vibskov, Gareth Pugh

Sketch or drape?

Both! For me, sketching and draping go hand in hand.

Patterns or solids?

Both all the time!

Favorite colors?

Neon anything, lilac, orange, black, pink, and every other color.

Biggest fear as a designer?

What's there to be scared about?Never hold back.

Fashion must?

Have fun with your look!

Fashion faux pas that drives you crazy?

Gray heathered sweatpants anywhere.

Favorite style icon?

Grace Jones, Leigh Bowery

What would you design for the first lady?

Anything she wants!

Celebrity you wish you could design for?

Marilyn Manson, Bjork or Kelly Osbourne. For Marilyn I would make a sweater that looked like it survived an apocalypse, and for Bjork I'd make a dress as beautiful as her mind. Not sure what I would make Kelly, but it would definitely be colorful and fun!

Favorite supermodel muse?

Andrej Pejic is amazing.

If you had to name your label, you'd call it...


If you weren't designing, you'd be...

A food chemist or something in the sciences.

Places/cultures you wish you could design for?

It would be cool to be a fashion designer during ancient times for Cleopatra.

Dream place to set up your business?

Paris or Antwerp.

Why do you think you're easy to live with?

I make really good cakes, cookies and random baked goods, but sometimes I don't clean up so fast.

The mallllllllllllll.


Hanging out with friends, beach adventures, antiquing, thrifting, road trips, going to new restaurants.

Movies: "Xanadu," "Clueless," "The Fourth Kind," "8mm" and anything by David Lynch, Lucio Fulci and Shion Sono. TV: "RuPaul`s Drag Race," "Workaholics," "American Horror Story," "Daria," "The Walking Dead," "Revenge," "90210" (original), "Saved by the Bell."

Not sure, but "The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology" is the last thing I read.

Mostly experience, ability to walk and have good poses without too much direction.
