Q: Describe your family.

A: My family is completely amazing. They have always been there for me and supported me through everything, no matter what.

Q: Current occupation?

A: Graphic designer.

Q: Past jobs?

A: A little bit of everything. I've waited tables, worked in retail and picked up more random design jobs than I can even count.

Q: Pets?

A: Henry, Australian terrier.

Q: When did you realize you had designer potential?

A: I've always loved making things and have always been creative. I took some pre-college classes through SCAD's Rising Star program and just fell in love with their fashion-design program.

Q: First garment you ever made?

A: A simple dress that I later embellished with studs and crystals.

Q: What.s your design training/schooling, etc.?

A: I have a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Q: Have you won any awards for your designs/work related to design?

A: In high school, I won some gold and silver keys for paintings and drawings through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program. In college, I had work featured in the SCAD Foundation's honors show and was selected to show my senior fashion collection at the annual fashion show. Last year, I was selected as a semifinalist for Charleston Fashion Week's Emerging Designer Competition and went on to win the People's Choice Award for the night I showed.

Q: Strengths as a designer?

A: I'm really driven and not afraid to try things I don.t really know how to do. I take chances and am always trying to build upon my skills and knowledge base. I'm also really great with material and textile choices, and love making my own fibers from unusual materials such as black lichen moss.

Q: Weaknesses as a designer?

A: I tend to get lost in what I'm doing, and am terrible at making decisions. I like to just play around with things until they feel right and it tends to slow me down.

Q: What are your influences?

A: I'm inspired by anything and everything. The beauty of fashion is how it can transform the most mundane into something fantastically gorgeous.

Q: What's playing on your iPod when you're designing?

A: It varies based on my mood and what I'm working on, but I'll listen to anything as long as it's not super-twangy country.

Q: Favorite material or fabric to work with?

A: I love hammered wool, leather and organzas.

Q: Item you're most proud of designing?

A: I made an amazing goat-fur coat for Charleston Fashion Week that I would wear every day if I could.

Q: Favorite designer(s)?

A: Gareth Pugh, Haider Ackermann, Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens, Sarah Burton, the late Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Alber Elbaz, Coco Chanel, Alexander Wang and Nicolas Ghesquière, to name a few. There is so much amazing talent out there, it's hard to choose a favorite.

Q: Sketch or drape?

A: Both. I sketch my basic idea, then let the fabric and the form guide me.

Q: Patterns or solids?

A: Solids.

Q: Favorite colors?

A: Silver, white, grey, black, peacock blue.

Q: Biggest fear as a designer?

A: Not being able to do what I love. I guess that probably translates into losing my hands or eyesight. I should probably be more careful around sharp objects.

Q: Fashion must?

A: Well-tailored black pants, statement jewelry and heels.

Q: Fashion faux pas that drives you crazy?

A: Toe shoes, sandals on men, muffin tops.

Q: Ugliest item of clothing/accessory you've worn?

A: Weird see-through leggings that eventually fell apart.

Q: What would you design for the first lady?

A: A classic dress, some daring jewelry and a leather jacket or fur capelet.

Q: Celebrity you wish you could design for?

A: Angelina Jolie. I'd love to design a dark evening gown to show off her edge and ridiculous beauty.

Q: If you had to name your label, you'd call it...

A: E. Clare

Q: If you weren't designing, you'd be...

A: At the beach, reading.

Q: Websites that feature your work?

A: Emilypollard.com, http://fashionforward.scad.edu/students/emily-pollard/, http://www.charlestonmag.com/fashion_week/photogallery/friday_night_emerging_designer_emily_pollard_cfw_2012

Q: How were you described as a kid?

A: I was always loud, outgoing and creative.

Q: How are you described by your family and friends?

A: I think they'd say I'm a bit calmer, still creative and ridiculously stubborn.

Q: Why do you think you're easy to live with?

A: I don't think I'm all that easy to live with. I'm really messy, and I'm not a big fan of sharing.

Q: iPhone/Android/Blackberry?

A: iPhone.

Q: Fast food or gourmet?

A: Both.

Q: Favorite foods?

A: Grilled cheese, mac 'n' cheese, filet mignon.

Q: Beer or wine?

A: Vodka soda.

Q: How did you end up auditioning for PR?

A: I was contacted by a casting director and figured I'd let them tell me no instead of telling myself no.

Q: Favorite past PR designer?

A: April Johnston and Julie Tierney.

Q: Challenge you wish they'd bring back?

A: Candy clothes.

Q: Challenge you hope they don't?

A: Anything involving small children.

Q: Your take on team challenges:

A: Hate them. It's hard to show your point of view when you are working in a team. It's also hard to work with a lot of big personalities.

Q: What do you look for in a model?

A: Definitely their walk and overall look.

Q: Do you think you can win "Project Runway"?

A: I hope so! There are so many talented designers out there with way more experience than me. I guess we just have to wait and see!
