Fashion designer, television personality, entrepreneur and social justice activist, Zac Posen is a staple in all aspects of art, fashion, and entertainment that shapes the current conversation.
Zac can next be seen as one of the 4 co-hosts and judges of Lifetime’s ever popular “Project Runway,” which is premiering its 15th season in September of 2016. This will be his 5th season in a row as a member of the team alongside Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, and Tim Gunn. In keeping with his commitment to mentorship in design, he has developed the Zac Posen Scholarship for Fashion Design at The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. In May 2013, Zac received from The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Alumni Achievement Award.
In 2015, Posen was tapped by Brooks Brothers to be the creative director of womenswear and he has been working with them to re-vamp the brand, while also adding in some of his own designs in a monthly rotation of styles on the rack. Last year it was also announced that he would be re-designing all of the Delta Airlines staff uniforms, from employees on the tarmac to flight attendants and corporate executives.
In February of 2016, Zac Posen / House of Z launched their online retail site: www.zacposen.com. He is one of the few couture designers who has made his fashion available to everyone using e-commerce. A true champion of the internet and technology, Zac uses Instagram and snapchat on a daily basis to connect with his fans. He has embraced technology in full force this year – with a standout moment at The Met Ball with a fiber optic glowing dress designed for Claire Danes.
A true artist in all ways, Zac is also an incredibly curious foodie. His immensely popular #CookingWithZac hashtag on social media is a way for his fans to embark upon culinary journeys with him. He developed a bottle of wine in 2015 with Ecco Domani vineyard, in addition to designing a special label for his bottle. In 2016, Posen announced that he had a cook book in the works.
Zac Posen launched his eponymous collection in 2001, with a vision for modern American glamour that married couture technique with striking innovation. Zac is known globally for his technique in artisanal craftsmanship, anatomical construction and textile manipulation. Envisioned in his New York atelier, he introduced a collection that combined legendary Hollywood glamour with a downtown sensibility, enhancing women’s natural forms and enabling them to be their most alluring, empowered selves. His daywear, suiting and red carpet eveningwear are infused with his bold sophistication, sexy femininity and distinctive glamour. Worn by leading women, including Uma Thurman, First Lady Michelle Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts, his designs are among the most anticipated on any red carpet.
His collections have grown to include Zac Posen, ZAC Zac Posen and Z Spoke Zac Posen with offerings in handbags, accessories, and eyewear. He has also had a collaboration with Mac cosmetics, Zac x Mac. The collections are found in leading department and specialty stores worldwide including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s New York, Harvey Nichols, and Seibu. In October 2013, Zac entered the bridal space with the launch of Truly Zac Posen in partnership with David’s Bridal, in stores since February 2014.
Raised in New York, Zac began his design training early. At 16, he attended Parson’s School of Design followed by London’s Central Saint Martins University. His collection launch quickly gained following by press, consumers and retailers alike as he carved his signature style. Two years following his first collection, he was awarded one of fashion’s most prestigious honors, Swarovski’s The Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear by the CFDA. His position as a preeminent American designer was solidified within the first two years of his career.
Most recently, Zac has served as judge with Heidi Klum and Nina Garcia on Lifetime’s mainstay “Project Runway,” in its thirteenth season.
