The Project Runway Blog
"Project Runway" Season 8 Designer Peach Carr creates all of her work in a hayloft, including her very own line of self-dubbed "mullet-wear" that combines the best of the business and party fashion worlds. Her hubby may call her "Johnny Cash" because of her black-saturated closet, but when it comes to designing (and her shoe collection), the self-taught Illinois mom is no stranger to bright bursts of color.
Take a spin inside Peach Carr's portfolio to see what from Bowie to preppy inspires the designer, and don't miss out on the video of her home visit. Where else can you get an old chicken coopfilled tour of a "Project Runway" contestant's 1890s barn-turned-house?
"Project Runway" Season 8 designer Ivy Higa was born and raised in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and has a kitchen full of macadamia nuts to prove it but now represents the home team as one of this season's three New Yorkers. The Manhattanite proves during her home visit that big things (and entire fall collections) come from small apartments, and shows Tim Gunn her Transformer aesthetic and a glimpse at her dark side at her casting session.
Don't miss Ivy Higa's portfolio of past work that includes runway gowns, more convertible-chic clothing and even enviable accessories. Then, check out the designer's fashion transformation through the years, including a chunky platform-sponsored stop in the '90s, in her personal photos.
The start of a new season of "Project Runway" is upon us, and Season 8 not only has a brand new time (9 pm!) and more minutes (90!), but the most number of designers in the show's history (17!). To help you get through all things new, here's a "Runway" road map:

Also for Season 8, we have some friendly and new faces for our "Runway" bloggers! Mentor Tim Gunn is back again with designers Carol Hannah Whitfield (Season 6), plus Nick Verreos (Season 2) and , new for Season 8, Laura Bennett (Season 3).

When you meet Althea Harper in person, it may take you a minute to figure out whether you're talking to a designer or a model. Although I didn't get to see this blonde bombshell's catwalk moves (yet), if you've seen her impressive portfolio, you know this girl knows her fashion and how to show off her sense of style.
Has she always been a fashionista? Apparently, yes. Althea told us that although she always loved to draw, at the young age of ten when she found her true passion for fashion. She recently graduated from The University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning, and took her design education across the pond for additional training at Central St. Martin in London. She's interned at prestigious fashion houses like Anna Sui, Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
Her wise fashion advice? Go check out some thrift stores for some classic items at bargain prices. (We're in a recession, you know!) Splurge on items like a killer pair of shoes or a wow-factor bag that will give your outfit the ultimate upgrade.
What do you think? Can Althea make it all the way to Fashion Week to show off her stuff? Sound off!
Shirin was sewing by four years old, thanks to lessons from her mom, and, by the age of seven, she was designing and making her own dresses. (Impressive!) Extremely confident in her design skills, she enrolled at the University of North Texas, where she earned a B.F.A. in fashion design and did a stint as an assistant tech designer for Fossil.
A die-hard “I Love Lucy” fan (check out the collection of “Lucy” memorabilia in her house tour!), she also gets design inspiration from classic movies starring Fred Astaire, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant.
Watch Shirin show off some of her favorite pieces to impress a panel of judges (including Season 2 “Project Runway” veteran Daniel Vosovic) who spotted her potential in a killer skirt that you can get an even closer look at in Shirin’s online portfolio:
Are you a fan of Shirin’s fashions? Think the judges will like her stuff? Let us know!
