San Francisco, CA, Season 10 - Out Episode 10
QBring us up to speed! AI’ve been super busy. I finally have my own studio. I launched a ready-to-wear line called R2WEAR and a few items are up for sale on my web store. I have been working on a lot of costuming gigs, one of them being with a band called Momoiro Clover Z, a Japanese pop band; the others are in the works and I cannot say yet. I’m also in the beginning stage of my next avant-garde collection.
QWhat garment from your season of "Runway" do fans compliment you on the most? AMy finale collection, that is where I could truly be myself. The challenges that were presented during my season were not tailored to who I am as a designer.
QWhat do you think you are best remembered for from your season? AFor being portrayed as the bitch. But everyone that knows me knows that that is not accurate. I can be a hothead, but it’s only because I’m so passionate about what I do.
QWho has been your favorite client to design for? ALady Gaga, Tyra Banks, Kelly Rowland, Ciara and more. But my most favorite clients are my clients who have been supporting me from the beginning, like Michelle Gates and Bianca Larsen. They are the ones who really helped me out.
QWhat celebrities would you love to dress? AI would love to get Rihanna to wear something of mine.
QWhat are your strengths as a designer at this point in your career? AI feel my strengths are definitely my time management and attention to detail. I’m very strong in construction and conceptualizing design. Weakness, hmm...probably being more confident about my work.
QHow has your design aesthetic changed since your time on the show, if at all? AI do not feel my design aesthetic has changed. I have learned to tone things down, but I honestly don’t feel like I have to. I know I’m not ever going to be the next Marc Jacobs or another ready-to-wear designer because that is not what I love doing. I love crazy, over-the-top conceptual fashion and will most likely become a successful costume designer before ready-to-wear.
QWhat are your favorite pieces/staple items in your closet? AMy shoes!!! I’m obsessed with shoes and cannot get over it. I have more shoes than clothes!!!
QWhich fashion rule do you think is begging to be broken? AThat women only want tight-fitting things to wear. Not true, I don’t always want to be wearing tight, hugging outfits, and that seems to be the thing with all the critics, especially the male fashion critics. Well, let me tell you something, before you judge fashion for a woman, do more research.
QHow do you choose what to pack for "All Stars"? AWell, since last time I only brought hoodies, this time I decided to dress up a little.
QWhat "Project Runway" challenges do you think are the best and worst of all time? AMy favorite ever is the avant-garde challenge, obviously. I was really mad that I got cut right before that challenge in my season; the worst had to have been the baby challenge my season. That was just cruel and purely for entertainment. I felt like I was being tortured and laughed at, not a good feeling.
QWho is your favorite fellow "Project Runway" designer from any season? AViktor Luna, Michael Costello, Anthony Ryan, Joshua McKinley, Kooan, Lantie... I have so many it’s kinda hard to list them all!!!
QWhat goes through your head when you see yourself on television? AIt’s super weird and freaky. First, I think my voice is weird on TV; second, I cringe when I hear my accent; and third, just seeing myself on TV is plain unreal!
QWhat is the one thing fans still would be surprised to find out about you? AEveryone knows I’m very emotional and those emotions can be let out through anger or crying, I don’t think people have seen my compassionate side, and that’s a shame. I’m very passionate about animal conservation efforts and have been a part of a few animal rescue efforts since my time on the show. I donated half of my Fan Favorite winnings to WWF and the Humane Society, and since then have been a donor for a few other local animal shelters and more.
QWhat makes you All-Star material? AI’m fast, I feel like I didn’t get to show who I really am on my season and I’m hungry and eager to do it again and to surprise all of my critics. Many people didn’t understand why I was chosen to be on my season, and on Allstars I’m going to prove to them the designer I can be and always was.
