Christopher Palu

Massapequa, NY, Season 10

Bring us up to speed!

I am currently working as an Associate Designer for the brand Haute Hippie. It's a great brand to work for! I have been designing everything from t-shirts to blouses to gowns to handbags and jewelry. Unfortunately I haven’t had the time to keep up on my own label and create for myself, but fortunately I am in a growing company learning about the industry and creating garments with a fantastic team of people.

What garment from your season of "Runway" do fans compliment you on the most?

Fans particularly love the Rockettes Costume and the Babies”R”Us dress. I think these two challenges were amazing and very important accomplishments for me!

What do you think you are best remembered for from your season?

I would hope it was the balance of my talent and humorous personality.

Who has been your favorite client to design for?

I would have to say my friend Christina. She needed a rehearsal/reception cocktail dress for her wedding and game me complete control over it. It came out beautiful and she looked amazing. It was definitely something great to have my name on and be proud of.

What celebrities would you love to dress?

I would love to dress Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep.

What are your strengths as a designer at this point in your career?

My strengths as a designer are that I work very fast and well under pressure. My weaknesses are that I can sometimes be indecisive and rely too much on what other people think.

How has your design aesthetic changed since your time on the show, if at all?

It hasn't changed at all. I still love the great balance between hard and soft.

What are your favorite pieces/staple items in your closet?

A staple in my closet is a blazer, I have a bunch of them. They look great with everything from dressy to casual. I would have to say my bags and shoes are my favorite pieces. They are things that you use everyday so they have to be amazing and well-made.

Which fashion rule do you think is begging to be broken?

There are no rules in fashion!

How do you choose what to pack for "All Stars"?

I couldn't choose…I packed everything!

What "Project Runway" challenges do you think are the best and worst of all time?

I would say the best would be the unconventional challenges because you can see someone’s true creativity come out! And the worst would be team challenges—making garments with another competing designer tends to be a little hard when each has a clear vision.

Who is your favorite fellow "Project Runway" designer from any season?

I have a bunch of favorites, I loved a good handful on my season: Buffi, Fabio, Melissa, Raul. Everyone was so sweet and amazing to work with.

What goes through your head when you see yourself on television?

When I see myself I think it’s so cool how I came this far!

What is the one thing fans still would be surprised to find out about you?

Not exactly sure. I feel like being in this competition you’re opening your life up for everyone to see. I have been a pretty open book.

What makes you All-Star material?

I have the drive and passion to make it far in this industry.
