Bring us up to speed!
I've continued selling my designs at high-end boutiques....and continued working as a fashion stylist.
What garment from your season of "Runway" do fans compliment you on the most?
The short blue dress from the last challenge.
What do you think you are best remembered for from your season?
Flowy, printed resort wear.
Who has been your favorite client to design for?
What celebrities would you love to dress?
There are so many.
What are your strengths as a designer at this point in your career?
My strength is ...mix of fabrics to create texture...and creating garments that are fun, effortless and timeless.
How has your design aesthetic changed since your time on the show, if at all?
I used to work a lot with prints and create mostly resort wear. Now I create ready-to-wear for all seasons....it is still effortless , fun and free-spirited.
What are your favorite pieces/staple items in your closet?
Everything in my closet is either black, nude, taupe, gray or white. That way I can travel light, mix and match everything together, and create interest with statement jewelry pieces.
Which fashion rule do you think is begging to be broken?
The rule of following fashion rules.
How do you choose what to pack for "All Stars"?
I needed to be comfortable, because I knew the days would be long, and I needed to be able to run around and work in the outfit, all day long. So I brought mostly simple pieces that I can mix and match and be comfortable in. I traveled with only one suitcase.
What "Project Runway" challenges do you think are the best and worst of all time?
Best: all unconventional challenges. They always show a different creative side and are most fun to watch. Worst: all challenges that involve menswear, because most of the designers on the show don't do menswear, and womens wear is just more fun.
Who is your favorite fellow "Project Runway" designer from any season?
Laura Bennett, because we became close friends and all her pieces are so exquisite and timeless.
What goes through your head when you see yourself on television?
"Oh Jesus...Why did I say that?" and "How the hell do I look?"
What is the one thing fans still would be surprised to find out about you?
There is another side to Uli than printed, flowy resort wear.
What makes you All-Star material?
Coming in runner-up on my season...and creating garments that people still remember.
