Q&A Anthony Ryan's Take
QBring us up to speed!
ASince I was on "Project Runway," I launched my nonprofit foundation, ROCKONE1, to benefit cancer victims of all types and their families. I also founded the first Fashion Week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in which Laura Kathleen, Bert Keeter, Joshua McKinley and I showed collections during a week.s worth of fashion-related events. It hasn.t even been a year since my season of "Project Runway"!!!
QWhat garment from your season of "Runway" do fans compliment you on the most?
AThe first thing most people tell me upon meeting me for the first time is "I LOVED your birdseed dress! You were robbed!!!"
QWhat do you think you are best remembered for from your season?
AI think my Southern charm and humor left an impression on the viewers.
QWho has been your favorite client to design for?
AMyself!
QWhat celebrities would you love to dress?
AI would love to get a dress on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Zoe Saldana, Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde and Gemma Arterton.
QWhat are your strengths as a designer at this point in your career?
AI would say that I am pretty strong and smart with color, texture and fabric choice. As with most designers, I am constantly working on my viewpoint as a designer and finding the best way to portray my aesthetics.
QHow has your design aesthetic changed since your time on the show, if at all?
AMy design aesthetic has done a complete 180 degrees. I have progressed forward but maintained an approach of looking at what I used to love to design.
QWhat are your favorite pieces/staple items in your closet?
AMy skinny jeans go where I go, along with a great pair of boots! Also, a great heather gray trench coat is a MUST during the winter.
QWhich fashion rule do you think is begging to be broken?
A'NO white after Labor Day!' Please, I say, 'Wear what you want to wear!'
QHow do you choose what to pack for "All Stars"?
AI just pack EVERYTHING.
QWhat "Project Runway" challenges do you think are the best and worst of all time?
AI love the avant-garde and unconventional challenges! I think they allow the designers the boost of creative energy they need during the competition. I would say my least favorite challenge is the "real women" challenge, because you never know if your aesthetics will mesh with the client assigned to you.
QWho is your favorite fellow "Project Runway" designer from any season?
AChristian Siriano has to be my favorite from all the "Project Runway" seasons. Not only was he memorable.he has gone on to do amazing things and continues to grow as a designer.
QWhat goes through your head when you see yourself on television?
AI just think to myself, "Did I really just say that?" and, "Do I really sound like that in person?" I still laugh at what would come out of my mouth.
QWhat is the one thing fans still would be surprised to find out about you?
AThat I still love to get dirty!
QWhat makes you "All Star" material?
ATo me, an "All Star" should strive to change others' lives, not just his own. Coming back to "Project Runway All Stars" will not only allow me to further build my brand but also help me make a more substantial impact on the lives of many.
