Prior to making her rounds at Seattle Grace, Boston native Ellen Pompeo garnered rave reviews for her role in Brad Silberling's "Moonlight Mile." Soon after, the actress appeared opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in "Catch Me If You Can" and alongside Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson in "Old School." Her other TV appearances include guest-starring roles in "Friends," "Law & Order" and Lifetime's own "Strong Medicine."
Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd)
Remembered by many as the adorable young dork from such '80s classics as "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Loverboy," Patrick Dempsey has grown up to become a twenty-first-century Hollywood heartthrob. He costarred in "Sweet Home Alabama" opposite Reese Witherspoon and earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the series "Once and Again."
Katherine Heigl (Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens)
Katherine Heigl started her career as a child model and made her film debut in "That Night," starring Juliette Lewis. Heigl went on to costar with Gérard Depardieu in "My Father the Hero" and in 1999 landed a lead role in the sci-fi series "Roswell."
Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey)
Texas native Chandra Wilson began her acting career at age five with Theater Under the Stars in Houston, where she appeared in more than 10 major musical productions. Wilson was a series regular on the ABC series "Bob Patterson" and has also appeared in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "The Sopranos" and "The Cosby Show."
James T. Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber)
Known for his recurring roles in such shows as "The X Files," "NYPD Blue," "The Practice" and "Six Feet Under," James Pickens Jr. has appeared in dozens of television series. His film credits include "Traffic," "Nixon" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back."
Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke)
Isaiah Washington was featured in the Spike Lee films "Crooklyn," "Clockers," "Girl 6" and "Get on the Bus" and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his role in "Dancing in September." Washington's television credits include "Ally McBeal," "NYPD Blue," "Soul Food" and "Touched by an Angel."
T.R. Knight (Dr. George O'Malley)
Born and raised in Minneapolis, T.R. Knight has performed on Broadway in Michael Frayn's "Noises Off" opposite Peter Gallagher and off-Broadway in "Scattergood." He received a Drama Desk nomination for his work in the latter. Knight was also a series regular in the television show "Charlie Lawrence" with Nathan Lane.
Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev)
Discovered on a subway in Paris, Justin Chambers began his career as a professional model. After appearing in series such as "Another World" and "New York Undercover," Chambers got his big break in the movie "Liberty Heights" with Adrien Brody. Since then, he's appeared in "The Musketeer" and "The Wedding Planner."
Sandra Oh (Dr. Cristina Yang)
A familiar face from her 2004 role in the hit flick "Sideways," Sandra Oh's other film credits include "Under the Tuscan Sun" and "The Princess Diaries." The actress has appeared in the TV shows "Arli$$," for which she won a CableAce Award; "Six Feet Under;" and "Judging Amy."
Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Shepherd)
Before costarring with Will Ferrell and Robert Duvall in "Kicking & Screaming," Walsh appeared in "Under the Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane and fellow "Grey's Anatomy" cast member Sandra Oh; "After the Sunset" with Salma Hayek; and "The Family Man" with Nicolas Cage. Walsh was a series regular on "The Drew Carey Show."
