Izzie, Cristina and George are in the shower together - in George's dreams, that is! Meredith has a gut feeling she's going to die today, and she won't get out of bed, much less go to work. Izzie and George call on Cristina to help them get Meredith up and back to the land of the living.

Hannah, a young paramedic, has her hand stuck inside a trauma victim in order to stop the bleeding, but Alex discovers that her hand isn't the only foreign object inside the guy - there's also live ammunition in there! The hospital is placed on Code Black (meaning there's a bomb scare), and the surgical wing is shut down.

Bailey's in labor, and in her husband's rush to be with her, he was involved in a car accident and sustained a brain injury. Derek and Cristina handle the surgery. Despite the bomb squad's evacuation orders, Derek, Cristina and Meredith insist on staying. Meanwhile, in the supply closet, Alex and Izzie turn to passion to allay their fears.

In the chaos in the hospital, Richard works toward maintaining order. Hannah panics when she is left alone with the patient, and she ends up pulling her hand out and running away. Without a second thought, Meredith rushes to take her place by shoving her own hand inside the man's chest.
