9 "Sinful" Foods That Are Good for You
We make 200 food-related decisions every day, but you may be avoiding grub you thought was bad for you (like chocolate) but can actually make you healthier. Here, tasty foods that you can go on eating, guilt free.
“Sinful” Food #1: Wine
Among wine’s recently discovered benefits are: improved heart health, less plaque accumulation in arteries, better bone health, cataract prevention, decreased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, possibly cancer prevention and more. The miracle ingredient appears to be resveratrol, a naturally occurring substance found in grape skins, that has antioxidant effects (meaning it wipes out compounds in the body that can damage DNA and lead to disease). However, more isn’t necessarily better. While the American Heart Association recommends up to one glass of wine per day for women and two for men, filling your bubble glass to the brim won’t keep the grim reaper away. Most studies say one 5-ounce serving is sufficient. There’s no clear evidence pointing to one varietal being better than another, so go with red or white whichever your taste buds prefer.
