Meet the Grand Prize Winner of the Heroes With Drive Contest presented by AutoTrader.com! For our contest, we asked you to share the stories of the military heroes who inspire you by going the extra distance and why they deserve to win $25,000 to put toward the purchase of a new vehicle. Daniel Barnes, our Grand Prize winner, will receive $25,000 toward the purchase of a vehicle found on AutoTrader.com.
He was nominated by his girlfriend Mary, who wrote:
"Daniel served three tours in Iraq; his second deployment included a night where his Humvee convoy hit an IED. Daniel pulled two soldiers from the crash and provided cover fire until air support could arrive. He is now a disabled vet at 28 ... I would love to see him driving a reliable truck and not worrying about the payments."
Currently a full-time student, Daniel is pursuing his lifelong ambition to become an agriculture teacher. Making ends meet while in school has been a real challenge, and not having to make a truck payment each month will allow him to complete his degree without having to take time off every couple of semesters to catch up with the bills. He told us, “This honestly couldn’t have come at a better time … Mary and I have spent hours talking about how one lucky break like this can shape the way the next decade turns out.” Congratulations to Daniel – he is indeed a true hero with drive – and thanks to everyone who shared their stories with us!
