Trial By Fire (aka Smoke Jumper)

  • Made: 2008
  • Genre: Drama
  • Stars: Brooke Burns, Rick Ravanello, Rex Linn
A routine house fire ends in tragedy as the local fire department loses one of its own during the blaze. Taking the brunt of the blame is Kristin Scott, as she was the only other firefighter in the house at the time. Now, as dormant sexist tensions erupt, the entire Fire Department questions Kristin's abilities as a fire fighter. Worst of all, her family does as well. Even though Kristin is soon exonerated of any wrong doing, the tensions and prejudice continue to boil over. She is left with only one choice, and that is to prove her skills at the highest level. With dogged determination she sets out to become the first woman ever accepted into the elite Missoula Smokejumpers - the most dangerous form of fire fighting there is. Now, against an disapproving family, and a male dominated world of smoke jumping, Kristin has four weeks of rookie training camp to prove that she can do what no woman in her field has done before. But a massive forest fire begins to ravage the countryside and completely wipes out a crew of smoke jumpers in its path. Kristin along with the small team of trainees is immediately put into active duty to do battle with the ever-growing wildfire. As the disaster spreads to neighboring towns it quickly threatens hundreds of homes and thousands of lives including the lives of her family. Kristin needs all of her resolve to fight back the demons of her past so that she may help defeat this raging inferno, and prove once and for all that she's got the right stuff.

I just saw the movie, I liked it very much, your music or soundtrack, someone who knows the music?
I would like!
greetings and thanks
I agree with the previous comment about Lifetime's complete failure to market a movie. This is a story local to me. I live on the side of Idaho that is NEVER mentioned in movies and this show has talked about it many times. It would be an immediate local favorite if anybody even knew it was coming. The only reason I know anything about it or any other movie that's not "Movie of the Week" is that I watch Lifetime constantly.

I also agree with the other previous comments about the incorrect portrayal of equipment used. My mother has been a bus driver for years for these fire fighters and has brought home stories and photos of all those experiences. They look and sound nothing like the movie portrays. The movie makes all these actors look like a bunch of improperly equipped beautiful people from Hollywood who got their manicures properly done before filming.

Sorry but living here in redneck country where all these things take place and people actually exist, it just takes away from a movie when things like this are not portrayed properly.

Decent typical Lifetime movie otherwise.
I am a wildland firefighter. I enjoyed this movie, but it was really inaccurate in the gear used, where are the fire shelters, the PPE, the correct boots, gloves, etc... Granted I'm not a smoke jumper, but when these movies are made, why don't they go the extra mile and make sure they actually portray the profession correctly? Makes the quality of the movie go way down.
This type of movie really exposes a current imbalance in our community services. The saddest part is that this is a CURRENT situation, not something of the past conquered. Of course the more brutal experiences, like rape, equipment sabotage, or quarters violation, --were not addressed. I'm asking my library to get a copy of this for teachers and consultants to show.
This movie was really good. IT is hard for me to watch these movies because alot of them do not do as it really is done. but this one is good. My husband is a wild land firefighter. He has done everything but smoke jumping. Watching these shows really hit close to home.
Good Tv Show
Lifetime Is Great
What brings me to tears isn't the movie's plot, but the fact that Lifetime seemingly has no marketing ability. Once gain, here is a movie that Lifetime has failed to properly market to its fans. No photos, no cast info, no wallpaper, no nothing. Just a headshot and a blurb. Pathetic.
Very well done. Loved the characters and the acting. Great story. Made me cry.
