About Living Proof

“Living Proof” is the true story of oncologist and researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon, the UCLA doctor who helped develop the breast cancer drug Herceptin, and his effort to keep the drug trials afloat. His inspiring journey shows the sacrifices he makes in his personal life and the obstacles that he faces to get the drug approved. Thousands of lives have been saved because of his dedication. (Based on Robert Bazell’s book “Her-2.”) Renée Zellweger, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, and screenwriter Vivienne Radkoff are the executive producers. Check out the "Living Proof" viewers guide.

First let me say that I am defintiely "Living Proof", however, I did not know that this movie existed or I wouldn't have missed it for the world. In April of 2006, at the age of 38, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer...I had mets to my liver in 3 spots, one major tumor at the porta-hepatis which definitely could NOT be resected. With the help of my fantastic oncologist and the use of Herceptin every week plus chemo every 3 weeks then hormones, the cancer in my liver went away. By November, my liver was clean and the tumor in my breast had gone from the size of my fist to the size of my finger tip so I had a bilateral mastectomy and only had 2 of 15 lymph nodes involved. I continue to get Herceptin (at a higher dose) every 3 weeks now which you all know has really no side effects except the need for MUGA scans to watch your cardiac output and I am happy to say that I have been cancer free now for 2 years and 6 months. I will continue on Herceptin for years and years my oncologist says as a prophylactic treatment......Thank you Dr.Slamon and God Bless You!

Would like to know how to obtain a copy of "Living Proof". When will it be shown again.....? Having had BC and currently on Herceptin, I know many women who have not seen the movie and I would love to obtain a copy so we can have a showing. Thanks.

I'll like to thanks too Dr.Slamon due to his efforts,trust and perseverance on researching for this drug. My sister was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma in september 2008, actually she is receiving chemotherapy and eventually will receive Herceptin. We got to see the movie when Lifetime started showing it I think it was in November, she asked me a lot of questions while watching the movie. I'm an Oncology Certified nurse for over20 years and I felt so proud of you and this achievement. One of the message that the movie gives is the importance of the clinical trials to save lives. I hope more and more people watch the movie and learn more about research and clinical trials. I had the opportunity of discussing the movie in an Oncology research morning meeting in the institution that I work for with the multidisciplinary team. Felt so proud and very identify with this work. I'm planning to buy some copies of the movie to show it to the patients,relatives and visitors.

I just watched this movie after recording it on my DVR. I not only cried during half the movie but for a good 20 minutes following the end of the movie. I have never been so inspired by a movie. My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor and I have helped with numerous local Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walks, and I really think that Lifetime should sell this on DVD and donate the proceeds to Breast Cancer research. After watching this movie, I wanted to find copies to buy and send to all of my family and friends so that they could be just as inspired by this story as I am.

Just found out about Living Proof and am anxious to see it. When will it be showing again?

As a two-time breast cancer survivor this is close to home for me! I'm in my 10th month of Herceptin treatments and feel this is a miracle drug to give me a chance to see my grandsons as teenagers, or even better yet - to see my great grandchildren!

Thanks to Dr. Slamon and to everyone involved in making a mark in history, so that I can enjoy my life as a breast cancer survivor! Starting in July of 2006 I was diagnosed with HER2+ stage 2 breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy (2 lumps) and a few lymph nodes removed that came back cancerous. Then I had chemo, radical mastectomy, more chemo, radiation, and one year of herceptin and my cancer is still gone! I am proud to be LIVING PROOF of what herceptin can do for the breast cancer community! Thanks again to all involved in the fight against breast cancer!

I just finished watching Living Proof for the fourth time. The first 3 times were when it originally aired in the Fall. I watched it 3 nights in a row. I was diagnosed with stage 2 her2+ breast cancer in July 2005 when I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter. Shortly after my surgery, I found out that I was er+ and her2+. I thought I was going to die. My doctor told me that I was lucky. Herceptin was approved only last month for use in treating my type of cancer. I can't tell you how blessed and lucky I feel. I had 52 herceptin treatments along with chemo and radiation. I have been cancer free for 3&1/2 years. This movie was so emotional for me to watch. I sat and cried several times and I feel so thankful for all the time and energy put forth to make this drug a reality for women like me. This movie was excellent - it was tastefully done and not cheesey and unrealistic like many breast cancer movies I have seen. Way to go Lifetime!!!

if you think to by the movie look for it in netflix or your local video stores and the web to maybe lifetime sell there movies i think i hope i help on anwers your questions

My wife recently had surgery, and is now receiving chemo. We heard about this movie- my wife is HER2+ - and we want to see it. Does anyone know how to get a copy??? Please respond if you do. Thank you.

The movie will be aired again on Feb. 18 at 9 PM and you can tape it yourself with VHS or DVD recorder.

I Would like to say Thank you to all of the trial patients, the family and friends of Dr. Slamon, and everyone that supported him, And of course never enough thank yous to Dr. Slamon himself.My mom had Metastatic Breast to Bone Cancer, when diagnosed, she was only given one month to live. Because of the miracle Dr Slamon created, she was able to live for two more years. It would have been much longer, but she was married to a horrible man that was mean to her. I want to thank everyone again that was involved in getting Herceptin on the market. It will be 9 years March 22 that she passed away. Thank you again, best wishes to everyone. Any one that fights any kind of cancer is an amazing person.

I TiVo'd this movie and just had a chance to watch it. I logged into Lifetime right away to learn more about the movie and tell my friends & family when it might air next. I was very moved by this movie and want to learn more about what I can do to stay healthy for my family and steps I can take to help others. Thank you Lifetime and for the all that made this movie possible - and, of course, for the real men and woman involved in this amazing story.

This is such a great TV movie. Truly well documented. The doctor is still affecting so many lives and saving lives that would have otherwise been prematurely lost. Their friends and families are truly grateful.
