I wait all year to watch my favorite Christmas shows on TV. I am such a weirdo when it comes to that. I have DVD copies of all my favorite Christmas stuff but I have never watched them on DVD (all of them were given to me as gifts). To me part of the fun of watching the classic Christmas movies and such is waiting for them to come on TV or finding them accidently while “surfing” and I don’t even mind the commercials. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I happened upon “White Christmas” last night. I missed the first 10 minutes but figured that was OK because I could see the rest of the movie. Something didn’t seem right when Bing and Danny entered the dining car on the train but I have not seen the movie in so long I figured I just didn’t remember the scene properly. I knew the “Snow” number was coming up and I couldn’t wait. Well imagine my surprise when just as the song was to start a commercial interrupted and when it was over the train was shown rumbling down the tracks. I was really disappointed. I figured it had to be cut to fit the movie into the time slot. So I checked to see how long the movie was going to run and it was only 2 hours. I remember it always being at least two and a half hours on TV. No big deal. It’s just one scene and I had the rest of this wonderful movie to watch right? WRONG! The movie was butchered to death. Many of the dancing numbers were cut as well as important parts of the dialogue. Does the Lifetime channel think that we don’t remember what is supposed to happen? Why can’t they shorten the commercials or lengthen the time slot. I was so disappointed. After the movie I went to YOUTUBE and watched the “Snow” number as well as many of the musical numbers that were cut (I had forgotten how many there were). I think what I will do next time is wait for my favorite show to come on TV and then put in my DVD so I can see the movie as it was intended to be seen. Is it worth loosing viewers who watch all the stupid commercials just to fit a movie into a two hour time slot? Now I know what Charles Schultz meant when he wrote “Charlie, let's face it. We all know that Christmas is a big commercial racket. It's run by a big eastern syndicate, you know.”
I hope you don't get to play "Gone With The Wind" because we won't see Atlanta burning, "Titanic" because viewers won't see the ship sink or "Wizard of OZ" because no one would see the house fall on the witch and you would just skip the part where the Wizard gives the Lion his courage, the Tin Man his heart and the Scarecrow his brain and no one would ever hear "There's no place like home." You guys really are the "Grench who Stole Christmas." Bah Humbug I say to your editing skills.
I am so glad......
there is also a sequel to this movie called
The Christmas Blessing which is pretty good.
Not sure if it's playing on Lifetime but you can rent it a Blockbuster.
