Every Woman Counts 2008
Join Lifetime Networks and its partners in getting more women involved in the upcoming elections.
Topics: voting, every woman counts, 2008 election
First launched in 1992 and now entering its fifth presidential election cycle, the 2008 Every Woman Counts campaign will encompass the Networks' most extensive on-air programming, digital content and grassroots initiatives to date, including a town hall and a televised forum with presidential candidates focused on all of the issues critical to women and rarely discussed elsewhere, such as child care and early learning, domestic abuse, pay equity and women's health.
As a central feature of the campaign, Lifetime is going across the country asking women, celebrities and candidates what issue tops their agenda by completing the statement: "If I were president, I would..." The wide array of responses — collected on-camera, online and on postcards at grassroots events — will be highlighted in monthly on-air, broadband and Video-on-Demand (VOD) vignettes, will be shared with candidates throughout the campaign to get their responses to these issues, and ultimately will be delivered to the newly elected leaders in the White House and the Capitol in January 2009.
Throughout the 2008 election season, Lifetime will conduct national polls, hold training sessions for women to learn how to run for elected office at all levels, host special events at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and kick off an unprecedented voter registration and turnout drive that will include an on-air, bilingual public service announcement campaign.
"We know that 35 million eligible women did not vote in 2004, and despite the fact that women are the majority of the population, they are significantly lacking in political representation at home, where women hold only 16 percent of the seats in Congress, and internationally, where the U.S. ranks 67th in the world," said Meredith Wagner, executive vice president, Public Affairs, Lifetime Networks. "By mounting our largest Every Woman Counts campaign to date, forming the first-ever nonpartisan women's media and nonprofit Coalition, and working with our distribution partners and sponsors, Lifetime hopes to change these statistics and ensure that women are heard on the campaign trail, in the media and in the halls of power. With our new CEO, Andrea Wong, on board and so invested in this effort, Lifetime is now expanding its important work of advocacy for women to make it more resonant than ever before."
"The goal of the Coalition is to reignite women's connection to politics by gathering our collective strength to get the political conversation firmly focused on the daily truths of women's lives in America," said Stacy Morrison, editor-in-chief, Redbook. "I know from talking with the readers of Redbook that women feel that politics isn't about their lives, and we aim to change that by helping women raise their voices."
"Business and Professional Women/USA is excited to work with Lifetime on the Every Woman Counts campaign and to join this groundbreaking Coalition to increase women's political participation and raise awareness of the issues women care about most, such as equity in the workplace, an issue very important to our members," said Deborah Frett, chief executive officer, Business and Professional Women/USA.
"This coming year will be historic for both women in politics and The White House Project. As we work to expand our signature Vote, Run, Lead program into 10 states, we look forward to being part of the Every Woman Counts campaign and this powerful Coalition," added Marie Wilson, president and founder, The White House Project.

I don't think I count at all based on everything I read on this website.
What happened to being proud to be woman? what happened to being blessed to connect with God to create? where did women start participating in murder? where did women decide they were less than?
I am proud to be a woman... I am sad to be a victim of abortion...I worry for a country who have stop blessing God.
Why should He bless us...when we pass immoral laws...when we stop blessing him...God bless America...okay, maybe He will when... America blesses God.
Palin is the epitomy of a Republican.
I just feel very overwhelmed at times especially during election time when everyone is geared up and excited to experience, and embrace change; at first I'm excited also, but then I remember hey! I'm a single parent of three children whom was injured at work and receives disability payments. I'm not sponsoring a pity party, I'm just thinking out loud how I never hear any political candidate representing the millions of people who strive to survive on a daily basis not just when the economy is suffering. If I were President, I would take into consideration the people of all financial status and abilities and remember that eventhough we may be limited by many things, were still strong in numbers and dignity.Keep our hope alive also!

Once a year, we hold a huge block party that consists of free food, beverages, water ice, good music, live horses, dunk tanks and cotton candy machines. I am a full time employee for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and I currently have 3 children.
I'd also like to add that I grew up fatherless and with a crack addicted mother but I didn't allow those obstacles to hinder or prevent me from pursuing my dreams nor do I use them as an excuse to disrespect, mistreat and look down on other people in this same situation.
I would love to set the example for other women or young adults who may not have made the right choices in the beginning or may have not had opportunities that others have been given in life, and to show them that you can achieve the goals that your heart desires.
Women are progressive, smart and insightful.
Do not be fooled by the Republicans and their smear tactics.
John McCain is a chauvanist and condescending, he only chose Sarah Palin to get the Hillary voters.
John McCains "real" choice for V.P. was Joel Liberman (the Democrat traitor).
Sarah Palin is Against Rights for Women, wants to get ride of roe vs. wade.
Sarah Palin does not representative women, she is a female version of Bush.
Don't get me started with John McSame!
John McCain and Sarah Palin claim they are MAVERICKS, REFORMERS and CHANGE AGENTS..LOL
More Lies/more of the same...No to John McCain and No to Sarah Palin
McCain and Palin are FOUR MORE YEARS OF THE SAME BUSH POLICIES.
I call upon (ALL WOMEN) to make your "voice" heard on November 4, 2008, vote for the real Change candidate, Barack Obama for President.
Together we win.....divided we fall.
Vote for Barack Obama for President!
GOD BLESS WOMEN, GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Well, I prefer self-sufficiency; I don't want Big Brother to take care of me from cradle to grave. I want to take care of my own family, along with my husband, not the gub'ment.
What is wrong with you women who **** and moan about being oppressed and then want more of the same? What, you're too stupid to take care of yourselves? UGH. You're pathetic.
I do agree that it seems the only women who count are liberal...
all of us who are for...homeschooling, or stay-at-home moms, abortion is murder...have every child God blesses you with...never get heard.
We need to become educated and focus on what kind of future we are leaving to our future legacy. So many things are going wrong in our country. We are struggling more than ever. As woman we need to step in and use what knowledge we know so we can help others in our same position.. It does not matter what kind of background you come from everyone has a voice, everyone one has something to give, everyone has something to teach. I love being a woman, I love knowing what my body can accomplish, I love being strong beacouse I am a woman.
