I probably wont be liked after i make this comment but i have cancer and i am going through all the ordeals of cancer but it bums me out and ****es me off when the media makes a huge deal on these movie stars and how they battle and how good they are well i'm a regula rperson. i have four kids three living with me and i'm ME raising them no nannies, no private doctor, no limos, no personal chef or butler or any other ammenities. i can't afford to be sick and in the hospital. i hate that i got sick but i did but i got a family to take care of with none of the "movie star ammenities. i worked through everyday of my chemo yes a real nine hour day where i go in when they tell me too not when i want to and i have a special needs child at home to boot with no nannies. i am the nanny. all three of my kids at home are TEENAGERS yes and yet Oprah nor anyone else is knocking at my door. i dont have not one breast cancer tee shirt to wear and all the walks you have to raise money. i believe we need to find a cure and great the movie stars put their face on the screen but only people with money can help buy the expensive things which is attached to their name. i pray each morning to wake up and i wish i could just be sick and not worry about the necessities in life but guess what i cant. Sure insurance wants to get you out and I was done that way but (you aren't going to like this) I'm glad i went home. I wanted to but I also needed to and yes I did my exercises (not because they told me cause they didnt) but I knew what i could do with the other one and assume the same on the hurt one and i did go home with drains two of them and did i have an assistant NO. I did it by the grace of God. Thank You for people that care cause I do but to put movie stars on a pedestal is beyond me. There are real people with real problems and we do have the luxury of massages or chefs or drivers or nannies or any real money coming in we work and have to face the day sometimes with no help or little help. The real hero is God and those people who support you endlessly not for the money and ordinary people like me and the countless others who face it alone. Not everybody is a superstar.

I had to reply to your comment because I thought it was very brave of you to put yourself out there as the real face of breast cancer! I am an Oncology RN and see the real faces of women and families struggling with this disease. I see lives changed and turned upside down by just a diagnosis, let alone chemo, radiation, hair loss, nausea, and fear. You are the real hero to yourself, your family, and all the other women out there coping with this disgusting disease. Celebrities may have a great face to put on an ugly disease but at the end of the day they need to be more than just a meaningless appearance. Stay strong in your fight!!!

Hi Ladies - I'm a photographer working with a non-profit organization that is called GI Jane to BASE (standing for Breast cancer Awareness Support and Education) www.gijanetobase.org
GI Jane is currently seeking women in the military who are also breast cancer survivors.
Imagine having been through whatever their particular Military experience was, only to come home and find yourself at war again, but this time the battlefield is your own body.....
They are having their 1st Annual Calendar Shoot 2009, this coming July. So, if you are or were in the Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army, or Coast Guard or know someone who fits the criteria, please visit the web and contact them. They are looking for Military Veteran Women who would like to showcase their story on the Calendar.
All you have to do is send your picture(s), along with a small biography of your journey. The date, time and location of the shoot will be announced as we draw closer to the event.
Photographing these women for the calendar and other on going projects has been inspiring. They are beautiful. They are heroes. They need and deserve our support, hope and love. Please join the fight. Please show your support by visiting their website.

thank you! Vicki

Mary-- You are right! The most important thing of all is that you are ALIVE!

The wife of a coworker of mine had a double mastectomy yesterday and all of the lymph nodes removed from her torso (on the side where the lump was found). She is 50 and a week and a half ago, she thought she was healthy. She discovered the mass in her breast last week. The doctors did an ultrasound and biopsy and confirmed that it is malignant. The doctors pulled her mammograms for the last couple of years and saw that it was there but was overlooked. Of course it was much smaller then but still. She will have to have chemotherapy and radiation. The doctors have sent the nodes to the lab to see how far it has spread.

The two of them just got married about 2 months ago after dating a year.

Best wishes to you girl!! You've got a great attitude Mary...I can just tell. God Bless!
