Teen Finds Lifetime Movie "Delivers a Powerful Message"

by Rhonda C. Wed., Feb. 8, 2012 ,10:32 am EST

In partnership with The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, Lifetime’s original movie The Pregnancy Project created a national dialogue about teen pregnancy awareness and prevention.

Based on the true story of Gaby Rodriguez, a high school student who pretended to be pregnant, The Pregnancy Project explores the sometimes biased treatment of pregnant teens.

A teen ambassador for The Campaign’s StayTeen initiative, sixteen year old Shelby of Shreveport, Louisiana enjoyed watching the movie premiere with her mom Lisa, using the discussion guide to talk about the themes raised in the film.

Shelby is a member of the StayTeen Youth Leadership Team and blogged about her experience watching the movie with her mom. She said “This movie gave us a wonderful reason to sit and have a heart to heart about something that really matters and is affecting teens all around me.”

Read more of Shelby’s insights after watching The Pregnancy Project at Stayteen.org, and watch videos of teens speaking out about the movie’s themes.
