Like Meredith Baxter in this film. She is a very good actress.
The Betty Broderick Story was very tragic. I watched it because the husband graduated from my Alma Mater - Notre Dame. As a devout Catholic, I thought it was insane to see Christian family values deterioriate throughout their lives. The husband's affairs were horrible and caused incredible pain for Betty who had helped him earn his credentials and expected full support. Instead, he ran off with the legal "secretary" who was actually a stewardess. Go figure. I draw the line at murder though. I read a book by a US Navy pilot shot down in North Vietnam. He was a POW for about 8 years, and his wife divorced him while he was still in captivity and being tortured. The wife became pregnant for another man. When the pilot (Everett Alvarez) was finally released and returned to America, he did not get angry at his ex-wife. He just moved on with his life, married someone else, and had a family. Despite the horrors of war, torture, and being dumped by his wife, he didn't explode at her. He just moved on. That is what Betty Broderick should have done, but the sins of her husband's infidelity can't be ignored either. The movie should serve as a reminder for young women who want to marry young. Will the guy still love you when you are 46 with gray hair and maternal weight gain? Are you 100% sure? The reality is that the answer is often no in the era of high divorce rates and infidelity. I think women should earn master's degrees or higher before getting married and wait until at least their mid to late 20s. That way, if the marriage doesn't work out, then they can survive with an independent career. I have a friend in New Mexico who recently got divorced, but she survived because she earned her advanced credentials before settling down. It really helped.

For those who inquired about Betty Broderick's address in prison. It is: Betty Broderick W42477, CIW MIB 118L, 16756 Chino-Corona Road, Corona, CA 92880-9508. She loves getting mail and answer nearly all as her time permits.
I feel sorry for her because her husband was a sorry sob who used her up and then traded her in,thats ****.I can understand why she had a break down,my husband also did the same thing but mabey not on such a grand scale.I dont agree with murder but Im sure under normal circumstances she may not have either. Her husband drove her to these dire actions. To drive someone who once loved you so much{as she did him}from love to murder,I think his actions played a big role in her snapping. She wasnt a murder before this
There is something about this story that is so compelling! (Obviously to me because I lived in La Jolla and knew the "players", but to many.) I see it as a warning of how one can self destruct. For those women who identify with Betty, I hope they know they have a choice to create good in their lives instead of getting stuck in the past in revenge and hate. Betty could have lived a fabulous life, wrote a book, whatever... (though I believe she is bi-polar)Watch her interview on oprah... she is frightening.
I agree.
You can just FEEL the pain she was in.
I try to catch this movie everytime it's on, hope the air it again soon.
I am a big fan of Betty Broderick. I am curious as to her address at prison to correspond with her. It may seem insane to some, but anyone who has been used and abused would totally understand. I dont agree with murder, however, I do understand where she totally lost it in the feeling of "giving up". In her eyes, she felt like "what do I have to lose." She lost everything she built her life around. The whole being of what she is and what she worked for. Before making judgements on the movie, you need to look into other books and also the court trial. The movie was based on the speaking of Dan Brodericks family. There are always two sides to every story.
Mokie, Betty's address in prison is:
Betty Broderick #42477, CIW MIB 118L,
16756 Chino-Corona Road,
Corona, CA 92880-9508.

You will not get a crazy, venom filled reply. She gets more "fan" mail than anyone else in prison and is loved by all. I'm not sure who is NOT accepting her phone calls. She sure is on the phone a lot.

Funny how people who don't even know Betty have such strong opinions about her sanity. Makes me question theirs.

Write to her, you'll be glad you did.
From someone who knew dan, linda, and friends of betty, she is bi-polar and remains "nuts"! Do you seriously think she had no choice, living on 16K per month in the 80's in an ocean view home??? What? She was a victim of herself, her own martydom mentality, materialism... Go ahead and write and then post when you get the crazy, venom filled reply as if she won something by murder of two people. Nobody will take her calls from prison. This is like when women were in love with Ted Bundy because they thought he was misunderstood or Mark Harmon.

I love any movie with Meredith Baxter, but I especially love this one. I finally found the DVD at Columbia House. It has part 1 and 2. Part 1 even has an audio commentary by Meredith Baxter and director **** Lowry.
