Based on a novel. John Klein (Richard Gere) is a hotshot reporter whose life suddenly takes a turn after he and his wife Mary (Debra Messing) are involved in a car accident. After she dies, John discovers cryptic drawings she made of a strange black winged creature she saw on the night of the fateful accident. He returns to the small West Virginia town to investigate a link between reported psychic visions, bizarre entities and his wife's death.
