When his parents die, nine-year old Waylon (Jeremy Bergman) lives with his
Aunt Marie (Doris Roberts) until it is decided that his godparents should
care for him. His godparents are Reg (Thomas Gibson), a single baker and
Julie (Poppy Montgomery), a globe-trotting photographer, who casually dated a
few years ago. They decide to take turns caring for Waylon in his parents'
house, and slowly figure out how to make the arrangement work and be a
family.
