Whoever said that this movie is better than the book is just an idiot who doesn't understand the value of unfolding a story line - and neither did the writers. Seriously - let's just start with the fact that the main characters names where changed. WHY? So much was ripped from this movie - the subtle (and brilliant) humor to start with. But to just change the names because you can? I understand needing to skip or consolidate some parts to make a movie, that's understandable - but let's not forget that while Meg enjoyed a romp in the hay with a warm bodied man, she wasn't the town easy. Her mother was. And LeAnn as Meg? YUCK. She's NOT a great actress, she just ruins a film that really didn't need much more help in that department. Eddie is beautiful and relaxed as always on the screen - I just wish he wasn't roped into this mess. I'll stick to the books. Now I know why Lifetime isn't on my radar for good TV - I plan on keeping it that way. What a soppy mess.
all of the Nora Roberts Collection that have been set to film have been a real delight to see, the actors and the storyline are terrific, can you imagine 8 movies made from these books!! I hope there are more to come, I havent seen Sanctuary or read the new book, I can tell you I have enjoyed all of them immensely, it makes you look forward to see the next intrigued collection, all of these have a bit of drama, comedy, heartache, closure, mystery, lessons to learn, most of all the romance and the adventure of romance. Midnight Bayou I can imagine was a great challenge and i loved the way it was portrayed and since I had lived near New Orleans I understand the "voodoo" and the mystique and the wonderful people there, what a wonderful story!!Bravo Nora Roberts, keep writing!!!
My Dad lived in Alaska in the 70's and worked on the Pipelines...he lived in Anchorage and Fairbanks...I never got there, but he told me alot about it... The people and their culture in general...
I have watched this movie several times. I love Alaska. I think that Leann performed beautifully. Their interaction was tremendous. I am now reading the book. I would love to see LeAnn in more acting roles. I did not realize the awesome actress that she is becoming. The role was great for her, the intimate scenes were not overly sexual. I would have liked for her to have performed one of the songs, but it was great. I also enjoyed Midnight Bayou. I had listened to it on tape and at that time had hoped that it would be a movie. Great job actors and Nora Roberts.
I liked the Movie better than I did the book........
Northern Lights is one of my favorite NR books. Too much of the humor of Nate getting used to living in Alaska was left out. I disagree that it was a good movie. I didn't think the chemistry between the leads was good. I did like the male lead. He delivered. LeAn disappointed. It's hard to put NR books into a small two hour block. But if you are going to do it, keep the essence of the book in tact. I have seen all but Tribute, and have been disappointed at how Mandalay has handled NR books. The casting director and the directors of these movies seem to scratch the bottom of the barrel. Or, they have Lifetime movie actors on retainer as in the old movie house days like MGM. I just wish these actors could act. The casting is all wrong, the actors fairly bad in most cases, especially the female leads. I just viewed High Noon and the female actress in the lead was awful. But at least Heather Locklear wasn't cast as a woman 20 years her junior once again. I'm hoping Tribute will be better. I'm not holding my breath. I don't expect anyone to agree with me. But that's okay...everyone's allowed their own opinions aren't they?
I think this is the best Nora Roberts movie for her '09 selection so far. I haven't seen Tribute, but it also looks promising.

The best thing about this movie was Eddie Cibrian. His dimples are something else. He and LeAnn Rimes have great chemistry. LeAnn Rimes did a great job, and I was pleasantly surprised by her performance. The love story was a little fast but sweet and not too over-the-top mushy.

The murder was interesting and had a great twist. I suspected the wrong person to be the killer the whole time. The story leads you in different directions so it was hard to peg the right person, and I was glad to be surprised about it in the end.
was good
What happened to the fourth part? That takes out nate's past story. how can you enjoy a movie without a part to it?
Ok so has anyone else noticed that they changed Nate's last name? In the book it's Burke but in the movie it's Burns. I know not everything will be the same as the book but why change that, it makes no sense.
