Exclusive Q&A - “Fugitive at 17” star, Casper Van Dien
Casper Van Dien, who plays Spencer Oliphant in the movie,“Fugitive at 17,” discusses how this role forced him to embrace his ‘dark’ side.
Describe your character in three words.
Lost, frustrated, narcissistic
How did you prepare for the role?
This was a very hard character for me to play. As the father of 4 daughters and one son I found it hard to relate to the decisions a man like this character made. I struggled with reaching that dark side of me and pushed past what I thought were my limits and tried to work the scenes from there.
How did your character change throughout the course of the movie?
My character started getting sloppier in his pattern. It started to go further than he planned. I think that living the way he lived he could never satisfy the hunger because the satiation of the trophy could only be surpassed by taking bigger risks. It is almost like he needs to be caught. And even then the game is just beginning.
How was working on this movie different from movies you’ve done in the past?
Every movie is a new experience and they are always different. There was a huge collaboration between the producers and the actors. We had a lot of fun even though it was very cold.
