About A Life Interrupted

Just a few short years ago, hundreds of thousands of rape kits sat unexamined, the legal time limit for prosecution slowly ticking away, while offenders who committed unspeakable acts walked free. Debbie Smith changed that.

A shy mother and wife, Smith led a quiet life as a homemaker in suburbia — until the events of one horrific day turned her world upside down. After being dragged from her kitchen in broad daylight and raped in the woods behind her home while her husband, a police officer, slept upstairs, Smith suffered through the dehumanizing rape-kit exam in... I can honestly say that this is my all time favorite movie. I too, can relate to this movie because, like alot of women, I was there once. But every girl, woman, or child that is raped normally always understands after a while, that it's not her fault. I had to go to counseling for years and to this day, I still have think about it from time to time, but I promise, It all gets better. Now when I think about it, it's not so violent and hurtful. It still hurts to some extent but not much anymore. I had a way of dealing with it even before I told my parents. I started watching Law and Order Svu right after it happened, when I was seven and now, I never miss and episode. I love it and I don't regret anything that happened because in a way, my life is better now. I started the process of Forgiveness which I recommend every sexually assaulted victim to start immediately. It helps tremendously!

when i first saw the movie i hadnt been raped, but in dec 2008 changed that. Now, i want to watch it, but i may not be able to. i regret not going to the hospital or the police, because then I could have the closer I need and the knowledge that he cant do it to someone else. so much stuff happens that you can't make heads from tails. im so glad her husband stayed with her(i believe, its been awhile since ive seen it) my long time boyfriend didnt with me. but i found someone new, someone that had caught my eyes years ago. he's helped me alot, and i do feel bad for him when im remembering what happened, but ive never heard him complain once.
I am a friend of Debbie Smith. She is one of the most amazing women I know. If you ever get the chance to meet her, please take the time to do so. We must all continue the fight for the rights of those who are sexually assaulted for there is much still to be done. Bravo to Lifetime for doing this movie. We must end violence against women. Debbie Smith makes a difference. I will make a difference. You can, too!!!
This movie was amazing, and I would definitely love to see it again. It speaks volumes for all the victims out there that there is hope and life after rape, no matter how long it takes to heal. Smith, I commend you and Lifetime is all the more a great network for showing movies like this.

When I saw that it was 256 pages I thought it was all going to be stuff that Spalding Gray had written. I was really excited to get this book, thinking that I'd have at least a few days worth of reading to do. Unfortunately only 56 of those 256 pages are actually his work. The forward by Francine Prose goes from pg 17-49. "Life Interrupted" goes from pgs 53-92 (40 pages). "The Anniversary" goes from pgs 95-109 (15 pages). "Dear New York City" is pg 113. The rest of the book, pgs 121-255, are eulogies. I would have preferred to just get a skinny little 56 page book of only his work. I realize that this book in essence was to be a dedication to Spalding Gray's life and last days. A way for his friends and family to celebrate his existance in their lives and say goodbye to him. It is a good book and well worth the money, but I would have preferred to just get his writings sans wordy forward and eulogies.

Its so hard to find the words to say. 9 years ago this month I was raped - although some people dont consider it that since I was living with and dating the person who did this- I went through a long long battle with trying to recover. I have never been someone who backs down from anythingand with this I was...it took a good friend telling me that I was still me ... no matter what he did he couldnt take that away from me. So now I am making plans to go back to school and get a degree in social work and work with abused women. I just wanted to thank lifetime for showing shows like this where the woman isnt a victim bt a survivor.
hi i would like to remain anonamous but i am thankfull to people like smith who can stand up to their attacker and stop them even if it does take a very long time. there are so many people who are violated in this world and keep it in and never tell anyone about what happened to them.
I want to watch this movie and meet Debbie Smith myself. I think her having to go through that or any woman isnt right at all and we should all try to help each other when it comes to times like this one. I give props to Thompson for playing the role, even though i havent seen it, having to put yourself in that situation of being a rape victim and thinking of how it can haunt you and turn your world upside down.
I Hpe Dis Movie Come On Soon Start's Gudd
