How did you prepare for your role as Aaliyah?
Not only did I listen to all her albums and watch all of her music videos, but I also watched her mannerisms when she's with her family and friends and how that changed when she was in front of the public eye. I wanted viewers to feel like they were a part of something from the past.

What was it like working with Executive Producer, Wendy Williams? Did she offer you any advice?
She did come to set and I got to spend a little time with her. I really respect strong, hardworking, opinionated, self-made women and obviously Wendy is that. I also really appreciate her support of me from day one. It means a lot.

What’s your favorite Aaliyah song?
"Try Again" — Such a beautiful song. But lately it's been switching to "Back and Forth." I discovered a lot more about Aaliyah's music through this movie.

My favorite Aaliyah moment is ________.
Her "Queen of The Damned" moment. When I first saw the movie she was electrifying. She was sexy; she was powerful; she was a God. In my research, there's so many behind the scenes footage where you get to see her click in and out of character and it only solidifies why she is such an ICON.

What do you want viewers to take away from the film?
I think that people are going to see an interpretation of [Aaliyah's] tragically short life. It's hard to make a movie that is 100% accurate because everyone's got their own memories and their own ideas about what all went down. This is our version. If viewers can take anything away from this film, it's that we took a crack at unearthing some brilliant moments in this amazing woman's life.
