When we first sat down to pick the best lovers in history, we came up with more than 70 couples that at least one Lifetime staff member thought fit the bill. Feeling that was too many couples for this exclusive club, we came up with some caveats. First, each of the pairs in this gallery made it past the seven-year itch, even if they did not make it to the "till death do you part" mark. In other words, don't expect to see Brangelina here; they've only been partners since 2005. Second, each couple in this gallery — even the ones that eventually split — proved beyond a reasonable doubt that during the time they were together, they were madly in love. (Sorry, Prince Charlie, you and Diana didn't earn a spot in our Hall of Fame.) And finally, we found three reasons why each of these 20 couples proved their love was stronger than the average duo's bond.
