Crochet Pattern: Petal Pillows
Not your average pillow - this design closes in the center. For greater contrast, you can make each petal in a different color.

- 200 grams/340 yds pink in worsted weight
- 50 grams/85 yds dark pink in worsted weight
- An additional 170 grams/290 yds dark pink in worsted weight, or the equivalent in a variety of colors
- Crochet hook size K-10 ½ (6.5 mm)
- Yarn needle
- 2 large buttons or beads
- 16-by-16-inch pillow form
Gauge
In pattern, 13 hdc and 10 rows = 4 inches.
Directions
Front piece (make 4)
Using pink, CH 49.
1: Hdc in third ch and in each ch across (48 hdc). Ch 2 (counts as hdc in next row throughout); turn.
2-12: Skip first st, hdc in each st across, ending with hdc in top of tch (48 hdc). Ch 2, turn.
13: Skip first st. Work dec dc over next 2 sts. Hdc across row. Work dec dc over final st and tch (46 sts). Ch 2, turn.
14: Repeat row 13 (44 hdc).
15: Skip first st (dec dc over next 2 sts) twice. Hdc across row, to final 3 sts, and tch. Work (dec dc over next 2 sts) twice (40 sts). Ch 2, turn.
16-18: Repeat row 13.
19-22: Repeat row 15.
23-24: Repeat row 13.
25: Skip first st, dec dc over next 2 sts, hdc in each of next 3sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, hdc in each of next 4 sts, dec dc over final st and tch (12 hdc). Ch 2, turn.
26: Skip first st, dec dc over next 2 sts, hdc across row, working 2 hdc into ch-2 sp, dec dc over final st and tch (10 hdc). Ch 2, turn .
27: Repeat row 13 (8 hdc). At end of row, do not ch 2. Fasten off.
Border
Attach dark pink to corner at lower edge. Ch 1, sc in same st. Sc densely along curved edge, working at least 1 sc into the end of each row. Fasten off.
Back piece (make 1)
With dark pink or color(s) of your choice, ch 49.
1: Hdc in third ch and in each ch across (48 hdc). Ch 2 (counts as hdc on next row), turn.
2: Skip first st, hdc in each st across, ending with hdc in top of tch (48 hdc). Ch 2, turn.
3: Repeat row 2 until back is 16 inches long. Fasten off.
Finishing
Pin straight edge of front piece to one side of back piece. Using dark pink, sc together along edge (each st should go through both pieces). At end of row, fasten off. Repeat with three remaining sides.
Weave in any loose ends. Sew two beads or buttons together back to back, leaving about ½ inch of thread in the center. Overlap petals of pillow and fasten together by weaving one button through each front layer and leaving second on top of the pillow.
Finished Dimensions
16 x 16 inches.
