Retro Bottle Caps Clock
This retro wall clock evokes the moderne style. The wire-wrapped arms come out of the center like the spokes on a wheel. They are quick and easy to make with an electric drill.

- Needlenose pliers
- Drill with 1/8" and 1/4" drill bits
- Pencil
- Saw
- Scouring pad
- Piece of plastic foam
- Wire cutters
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the Pieces:
1. Find center of wooden disc. Divide disc into 12 equal parts and mark on the back with a pencil.
2. Drill a 1/4" hole through the center of the disc. Drill a 1/8" hole in the side of the disc at the 12 places you
marked.
3. Cut dowels into 9" lengths.
4. Insert a 9" dowel and the end of 24 gauge wire into drill. Secure ends in drill. (Fig. 1)

5. Switch drill to slow speed. While slowly running the drill, hold the wire next to the dowel and allow the wire to tightly coil around dowel. Finger Saving Tip: Use a scouring pad to hold the wire next to dowel; the scouring pad also prepares the wire for painting. Let the wire coil around the dowel to 1/2" from the end.
Paint:
1. Insert ends of coiled wrapped dowels in plastic foam. Spray coil-wrapped dowels with white paint.
2. Spray paint hands of clock with white spray paint. Let dry.
3. Paint disc front and sides and 12 bottle caps with red enamel. Let dry.
4. Spray with gloss enamel finish. Let dry.
Assemble:
1. Squeeze a small amount of adhesive in one of the holes on the side of the disc. Insert a coil-wrapped dowel. Repeat for all 12 spokes of clock.
2. Trim the 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock dowels to 7-1/2". Cut away ends with wire cutters.
3. Trim all other dowels to 7".
4. Place clock disc face down on a flat surface. Fill bottle cap backs with adhesive. Place a glue-filled bottle
cap under each spoke end. Allow glue to dry.
5. Insert clock movement on back of disk and through center hole. Attach clock hands to center post.
6. Option: Glue red felt circles on backs of bottle caps.
