I’m not usually the type of girl who runs to see old-fashioned shoot-‘em-up westerns, but when the men doing the shooting are Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, you bet I’m going to get in line for my ticket. The story is simple: a hard-on-his-luck rancher, desperate for enough money to save his ranch, offers to transport a famed robber to the train that will transport him to jail. Along the way, there’s a lot of shoot-outs, poker faces and enough male bonding to make even the toughest cowboy shed a tear. Crowe is so charming, Bale is so stoic and Ben Foster is so convincingly creepy that you’ll even manage not to notice if the ending is a little on the questionable side.
