Can’t Buy Me Love: The Beatles, Britain and America

Does the world really need another book about the Beatles? As a longtime Beatles fan who’s read several books about this band, I certainly don’t have a problem with one more Beatles biography, especially if it’s as well-written as this one. The problem any Beatles biographer faces is how to freshly present the band’s story when it has been told hundreds of times before in various media. In “Can’t Buy Me Love,” author Jonathan Gould takes the angle of comparing the Beatles’ impact on Great Britain and America, the two most important countries in Beatles history. If you’ve read a lot of Beatles books already, you won’t find much in “Can’t Buy Me Love” that hasn’t been written about already. Rather than being a salacious tell-all, this book takes an intellectual approach to putting the Beatles story in a historical context, whether it’s telling the story of the Beatles’ lives, describing the group’s music or examining the cultural impact of the band that changed the world.

If anyone here loves a great suspense novel and a book that cannot be put down do yourself a favor and read Christiane Heggan's book, Now You Die. Now You Die is a book about a woman named Zoe who is a cartoonist and comes across a dead body. When she tries to get the police she comes back and notices that the body is gone. When the police don’t believe her, she takes matters into her own hands. Zoe uses her cartoon strip character Kitty Floyd P.I. to find out different clues about the situation she is in. The killer catches on when reading the newspaper and gives Zoe and Kitty clues as to the mystery of the dead body/ This book has so many twists and turns, and I was surprised as to how good Christiane Heggan could introduce new plots and characters without being predictable.

Chandra Prasad's On Borrowed Wings is an amazing read. I could not put it down and finished it in one day. The writing is so powerful and captivating I felt I was a part of Yale along with Adele and her classmates.

This is a very exciting book and thank you, Melissa, for recommending it.

A book I would highly recommend is The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. I'm almost finished with it and I wish it wouldn't end!

This book was excellent...Khaled Hosseini did a wonderful job and his sophomore work is just as good as his first...Kite Runner
