Is There an Oscars Best Actress Curse?

Given this week's disappointing news — the rumors that Jesse James cheated on wife Sandra Bullock, and the split between Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet — it's understandable that now there's word of a possible curse on Oscar-winning Best Actresses. (Both Sandra and Kate won the award in just the past two years.) Let's take a look at how the last 10 years' worth of Best Actresses' romances have held up:


      Although both are currently happy in new relationships, 2001 winner Julia Roberts and her then-beau Benjamin Bratt broke up the same year she won the Oscar.

       

      Similarly, 2002 winner Halle Berry split with her husband Eric Benet a year after taking home the gold, amid news of his infidelity.
         

      2003 winner Nicole Kidman was recently divorced from Tom Cruise when she earned Best Actress accolades.
         

      When 2004 winner Charlize Theron nabbed an Oscar, she had already been with longtime love Stuart Townsend for years; however, they have now gone their separate ways.

       

      Eight years of marriage and two Academy Awards later, 2005 winner Hilary Swank and her husband Chad Lowe divorced — one year after her 2005 win.
         

      The same year she won her Best Actress Oscar, 2006 winner Reese Witherspoon filed for divorce from husband Ryan Phillippe.
         

      2007 winner Helen Mirren is still smitten with her husband of over 10 years, director Taylor Hackford.
         

      Sexy single and 2008 winner Marion Cotillard went the independent route and hit the red carpet solo.
         

      Almost exactly a year to the day after she earned the Best Actress award, 2009 winner Kate Winslet announced that she and husband Sam Mendes had separated.
         

      Just 10 days after bringing home her first gold statuette, 2010 winner Sandra Bullock cancelled a premiere appearance after rumors began swirling that her husband Jesse James had been having an affair. Neither star has released a statement regarding the gossip ... yet.
