MONTHLY OVERVIEW
Drop and give us 30…years, that is. That’s right, Scorpio, a momentous new chapter of your life begins on October 6, when structured Saturn begins a three-year visit to Scorpio, your first house of identity and fresh starts. Setting off a 30-year life cycle—Saturn takes approximately that long to revolve through the entire zodiac and arrive back at your sign—this transit heralds a critical reinvention period for every Scorpio underneath the life-giving Sun. If this sounds “big,” well, it is. But not impossible, or even bad (as you may hear from some astrologers). While Saturn may demand hard work, the things we earn through elbow grease tend to last the longest. So start rolling up your silk shirtsleeves and building a long-lasting foundation, from the ground up.
For some Scorpios, this isn’t much of a newsflash. In fact, you may be chomping at the bit to get on with it. Over the last few years, you’ve realized just how D-O-N-E you were with a certain chapter of your life: a frustrating, yet never-ending relationship, a soul-sucking job, a self-defeating attitude, outworn codependent dynamics. Or, life circumstances changed overnight, without notice. Maybe you’d been toying with the idea of leaving your job, even griping most nights over a bottle of wine with pals, only to find that, after months of hesitating, your company shut down altogether. Yep, if you displayed that famous Scorpio trait of clinging till the bitter end, the Universe likely made the decision for you.
The upshot? Well, you became well-versed in adapting and restructuring. You owe this “pleasure” to mature Saturn having been in Libra, your 12th house of endings, healing and closure, since October 2009. Whew, this hasn’t been a cakewalk. During this time, one Scorpio friend lost her mom to cancer, while another became pregnant (her first child arrived a week before Saturn left Libra—mazel!). Another courageous Scorpio left a flatlining 20-year marriage in the ’burbs and sparked a relationship with a trained chef who now brings her homemade risotto in bed. In these cases—and hopefully this is true for you, too—weathering Saturn’s hardships proved that some good deeds DO go unpunished after all.
Here’s a little historical context: the last time sober Saturn visited your sign was from 1983-85, back when stonewashed jeans, leg warmers and shoulder pads were hot new trends, not just an ironic wink to annoying hipster fashion. If you were alive then, life may have gotten as tricky as solving your Rubik’s Cube or making it to the banana level on Miss Pac Man (we refuse to explain—Google it). This time around, you’ll see that hosting taskmaster Saturn doesn’t make for the easiest cosmic houseguest. Would you willingly invite a building inspector, construction supervisor and interior decorator—all rolled into one—in your metaphorical home? Not if you don’t want said guest to pull out the clipboard and magnifying glass and then proceed to call out all the flaws in the foundation.
But Saturn’s not a mean-spirited planet (and besides, you got no choice). He’s like that tough teacher who piled on twice the homework of any other teacher. But a B from this teacher meant more than an A++ from the others. Admit it: Feedback from the chop-busting professor stayed with you, even to this day. You never learned more in a single semester. (And hey, you may still be able to fire off the random bit of information, like say, that Scipio Africanus invaded Carthage to defeat Hannibal in the Battle of Zama…R.I.P. Bill Brown, 12th grade World History teacher, 1989.)
Saturn’s home turf isn’t the classroom, but the real world—your real world, in which the tough love planet delivers unforgettable lessons, the kind that urge you to make lasting, root-level changes. When you succeed on Saturn’s terms, instead of on a fluke, you’ve really made it. And let’s be honest—as a species, human beings are inherently lazy. We don’t work hard unless we have to, but that’s no good for our personal growth. As Plato said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” If we’ve been coasting, we open our eyes one day, realizing just how far we’ve drifted off course. Then, whistle ’round his neck Saturn stomps in like a personal trainer to whip you back into shape—no cutting corners allowed. Adopting the mantra “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” would be wise. Look at any and every challenge that crosses your path as a golden opportunity to reprioritize. Your car breaks down on the highway? Say thank you. Your credit card gets declined when you’re trying to impress a colleague? Say thank you. Your lover disappears one day, without a trace? Say thank you. (We know that might not be your, uh, default response, but you get the point.)
So, it almost seems insignificant to discuss any of the other planets this month now, doesn’t it? But modest Saturn would be embarrassed if we made too much of a fuss over him without acknowledging the other cosmic guests. Sooooo, the Sun (yes, Saturn’s even outshone the bright, life-giving Sun!) will be in Libra, your 12th house of endings, until October 22nd. This will help you put the finishing touches on the packing job you’ve been working on for the last three years. Tie up all loose ends accordingly, and breathe easy, knowing that you’re creating some healthy space for when the Sun moves into Scorpio the last week of the month. The October 15 Libra new moon is a great day for any long-awaited transitions, such saying a loving goodbye to that which no longer serves you, and allowing the universe to flood you with a brand-new bounty, one that resonates with your soul’s current frequency.
At the month’s end, an October 29 Taurus full moon lights up your relationship house. On this date, a key collaboration might come together seamlessly. Or, you could choose to say goodbye to a certain partnership (romantic or otherwise), if you’re no longer feelin’ the love. Since full moons are times of manifestation, you may just find a complimentary soul or seal the deal once and for all. Do we hear wedding bells?
LOVE & ROMANCE
Consider this your official Saturn in Scorpio love decree: for the next three years, the most important relationship in your life is the one you cultivate with yourself. This transit could easily spell reinvention; maybe you’re a therapist-turned-restaurateur or a gardener-turned-travel agent. As structured Saturn moves through transformative Scorpio, you could be in the throes of some intense change, leading others to question how they can relate to you—as you’re wondering how to act with them. Maybe you’re trying to be more outwardly emotional, sharing some of those intense Scorpionic depths, but you can’t shake the awareness of how much this will freak out your honey, who’s used to you being the stoic rock. Proceed gently, treating your immense sensitivity—as well as your loved ones—with a little TLC.
Here’s another reason you’re all about reinvention this month: on October 4, open-hearted Jupiter is going retrograde (backward) in your eighth house of intimacy, helping you revolutionize who you are in relationships at the deepest levels. During this four-month time period, you may find yourself working over certain relationship issues, like the root of why you just can’t trust your love. And if it’s something as obvious as the time you were 21-years old and your live-in boyfriend’s alleged ex-girlfriend came barging into your bedroom one morning and screamed at you, “Are you ***ing my boyfriend?”…well, now would be the time to exorcise that unfortunate demon once and for all. Yes, it sucked. But it’s also over. Stop making your current sweetheart pay for the sins of that cad whose name you can’t even recall.
Or perhaps you’ve been overly focused on the other person and need to get rooted in your own center again. If that’s the case, rest assured that mature Saturn will be all too happy to assist you in that endeavor. As hard as it is, you must back off. (Yes, that’s an order.) Throw your hands in the air, not in despair, but as a way to loosen your controlling grip. Practice letting go and letting God…yep, you can reveal addict tendencies in love when you get oh-so-attached. In fact, you’re so covert that the other person might not outwardly be able to tell….they just know that your psychic self tends to reach out at the most uncanny moments (like when a third party is honing in…).
The more evolved side of Scorpio energy is having faith in the spiritual side of love, i.e. when you’re truly connected, in the divine sense, it doesn’t really matter if your attention-loving sweetie engages in a little harmless flirtation with the hostess at your regular brunch spot. As Jupiter moves backward, you’ll ask all sorts of searching questions, such as: Does it really matter if the person who lavishes me with home-cooked meals, fierce loyalty and the best sex of my life also has a mountain of debt, two annoying roommates and isn’t ready to propose? Well, yeah. It might matter. But Jupiter retrograde grants you some important time to consider whether this one is worth the wait, or if you’re dealing with what John Gray (of “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” fame) calls a “stringer”…someone who strings you along endlessly but never quite pulls it together. If that very description raises your ire (and paranoia), don’t jump to hasty conclusions. Instead, slow down the pace or explore taking a trial separation of sorts until you can figure things out.
Another reason to take your hands off the wheel? All month, mature Saturn in Scorpio is trine dreamy Neptune in your fifth house of romance. As poet Khalil Gibran once famously said, “If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.” Welcome to the world of Neptune’s karmic boomerang. Slacken your grip, and see if by letting go, the energy flows more easily between you two. Adopt the view that you’re downright lucky to have this person in your life, and treat every moment as a special one. (If you can’t wrap your head around that one, you might just need a time out from all relationships…) Instead of dwelling on all that’s not working, add some elements of fantasy and romance. Draw a bath for your honey, lighting candles and playing romantic music. Pump up what S-Factor’s Sheila Kelly calls your “erotic creature”—or, if you’ve not made her acquaintance, slip into a pair of clear-heeled pumps and discover her. Yes, your tantric-goddess sign takes to the pole pretty easily, it turns out, and several of our Scorpio friends swear that S Factor’s dim-lit, mirrorless studios are the most empowering places on earth.
After all this month’s big adjustments, a full moon in Taurus, your relationship house, arrives on October 29, a make-or-break moment for partnerships. If you and your mate are on the edge, this day could bring a conversation that renders you officially off—or gets you fully back in sync again (whew!). This full moon packs some mighty power, and the real-deal security of Taurus energy means that you’re in an all-or-nothing kind of mood. If your relationship doesn’t go deep, you’re ready to make room for something that will. A rock-solid relationship gets even more secure. You just might end up doing some impromptu planning for the future. Who knows? A leisurely stroll in the park could lead to your love getting down on one knee and proposing spontaneously, fashioning a ring out of a piece of grass, which really did happen to a friend. She was over the moon. Here’s hoping you will be, too, Scorpio.
MONEY & CAREER
Hello, new life! On October 6, structured Saturn sets sail for three years in Scorpio, the high seas of all things intense, transformational and powerful (like we should tell you). Ahoy, matey: you’re on deck now, so get ready to navigate a few challenges, along with some life-altering opportunities to put your name on the map like never before. Since Saturn puts things on their right foundation and Scorpio is always gunning for the truth, you can expect to be a bit like the Princess and the Pea during this time. If something’s even just a wee bit off, you’ll sniff it out, stat. So get used to trusting your rock-solid sixth sense, instead of just taking things at face value when your B.S radar is going haywire. Saturn rules authority figures and experts, and during this time, if you start taking your talents seriously, you could walk away with some mind-blowing credentials, the kind that were just a figment of your imagination not so long ago. You’re a powerhouse—and you always have been. Now is your chance to let others know it, too.
However, this new exciting phase won’t be without adjustment. We don’t need a crystal ball to see core changes, streamlining and prioritizing in your future. Yep, time to get real with yourself. If Saturn introduces necessary changes (which control-grasping Scorpios hate), consider that they might be in your own best interest. Lost your “bread and butter client”? Well, you might now actually admit that this person was a pain-in-the-arse diva who practically put a halo on that Prada-wearing “devil” Meryl Streep so artfully portrayed. Was the cash even worth it? We didn’t think so. When Saturn firmly insists on shaking things up, look for blessings in the most unlikely of places. One healer we know firmly implanted the following mantra in the times of upsetting developments: “What is the gift that’s being given?” Believe it or not, having that mind-set will help you forge ahead, no matter how untenable the situation looks at first.
With expansive Jupiter going retrograde (backward) in your eighth house of wealth, long-term finance and joint ventures, you need to carefully review your motivation in joining certain partnerships. Did you hook up with a slick colleague on a promising project, but for all the wrong reasons, i.e. a hollow promise of high returns? Have you made decisions based on dollar signs, even if said decisions offended your truth-loving soul? Now that Jupiter is in this slowed-down, reflective position from October 4 through January 30, you have an opportunity to track the ebb and flow of your dough. Where is your money is going? Perhaps you could do some long-term restructuring of your finances, research tax planning, and even make some wise investments. Find a way you can work less and still grow your bank account—if anyone can figure out how to be resourceful, it’s savvy Scorpio. You’re practically a sorceress, pulling money (and angel investors) from the ether with one little sexy snap of your fingers.
While you have plenty to keep yourself busy this month, take a detour to see if you can reach outside of your existing revenue streams. Perhaps you want to devote a crisp fall morning to cozying up with a latte and chocolate croissant and a blank page for brainstorming: what are some concrete ways you can pad your income? With go-getter Mars in Sagittarius, your work and money house, there could be exciting, cash-boosting opportunities waiting in the wings. Feeling a little wayward, or in need of some focus around what you’re meant to do? We suggest the upcoming teleclass “Find Your Calling: Awaken Your Life Purpose, Clarify Your Vision & Do Your Soul’s Work,” co-hosted by Martha Beck, Lissa Rankin and Amy Ahlter: https://te108.infusionsoft.com/go/FYCP/astrotwins.
HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL
Endings, beginnings, they all merge into each other in the cycle of life. And you know that like never before. Over the last few years, as Saturn has toured your 12th house of closure, transcendence and rest, you’ve been cruising through particularly spiritual waters. You may have experienced some losses that made you more reflective. Whatever the situation, Saturn gave you this time to really slow your pace, opting for meditation and getting in tune with your own depths.
Any social butterfly tendencies were eked out during this period, and you might have favored outright silence and privacy. You were certainly not up for, say, piling into a hotel room in Atlantic City for your college pal’s bachelorette party. Maybe you just left the fray altogether. One Scorpio, a born-and-bred New Yorker, up and left for the Midwest, where she’s happily ensconced in her simpler life, complete with stunning lake views and a sprawling home (for just a fraction of her Big Apple rent). Scorpios needed some solitude as you sorted through various chapters in your life coming to a close.
When you put your energy into anything—be it your sweetie, an ambitious job or your own abode—you give every ounce you of passion you’ve got. So mourning these losses wasn’t easy, not in the least. The good news? This period comes to a close as Saturn enters Scorpio on October 6. Especially as this shift begins, watch out for pessimistic thinking or a tendency toward depressive thoughts, as Saturn can announce its arrival with some heavy emotional energy. Give it a little chance and it will clear—or rather, you’ll learn to work with Saturn by cultivating a positive thinking habit whenever you need it. If you’re feeling just a tad down, go for a run, sweat out some of your stress. Or, find a recording of positive affirmations that really speaks to you. Train your brain by breathing deep, relaxing and erring on the side of giving yourself the benefit of the doubt. Saturn is helping you slow down and prioritize. So rather than numb your “bad” feelings, examine them—they’re likely important clues pointing to where foundational changes need to be made.
On October 15, the new moon in Libra is an excellent time to sit lotus and commune with whatever your sense of God or transcendence is. Pack up and head to a wellness retreat, or just spend some languid hours in your PJs, journaling, sleeping, nurturing yourself. If you’d like to start a new spiritual or meditation practice, this day will give your efforts a higher chance of sticking.
Boosting the internal-reflective vibe you’ve got going on, expansive Jupiter goes retrograde (backward) in Gemini, your eighth house of deep transformation, from October 4 to January 30. During this four-month period, you’ll do well to cleanse your body and soul from the inside out. So get those efforts underway to detox from negative thoughts and unhealthy food. Keep green juice recipes at the ready, in case you feel the need for a symbolic or literal cleanse. Pick up Kris Carr’s new book “Crazy Sexy Kitchen” for recipes.
Be aware of the limiting beliefs you have, the thoughts that prevent you from achieving the intimacy and spirituality your big heart truly desires. If you discover a certain paranoia, which has you thinking that new friends are using you for your A) movie star good looks; B) piles of money; C) abundantly giving nature; or D) all of the above…you gotta chill. If you walk around with that attitude, you’re broadcasting it to the world, not to mention thwarting your chances at developing healthy connections. Make a beeline to your therapist’s couch, to deal with any such issues. Now is the time to examine the depths of your soul and psyche, releasing all the baggage that’s been weighing you down. Clear the psychic clutter. Your fulfilling new life awaits!
