MONTHLY OVERVIEW
Happy birthday! Feliz cumpleaños! Bon anniversaire! The Sun is in Sagittarius until December 21, making this your annual solar return season. Translation: It’s birthday-party time, baby! This year, you may not be in full-on fete mode, though. With Saturn in Scorpio, your twelfth house of retreat and rest, you might just feel like celebrating intimately with a few close friends. Granted, for outgoing Sags, “a few friends” can quickly swell to a 50-100 person headcount. If that overwhelms you, ease up on the pressure to host and just be the guest of honor. Let a close friend plan your bash—or skip the celebration and treat yourself to a spa getaway with a couple of your besties. You’re more contemplative than you’ve been in years—which is awesome, because as you stare down another year of life, you’re especially eager for a molecule-shifting change. So keep it low-key, Sag, if that’s your pleasure.
Besides, you could certainly use a reboot after the intense November most Sagittarians had. A cosmic gridlock of planets in Scorpio left many Sags feeling drained, dark and even depressed at moments. Even while amazing and serendipitous events occurred, it was hard for you to feel truly grounded or to take it in…it was as if your inner GPS got scrambled. Here’s the rub, Sag: you’re actually supposed to feel lost and disoriented now. In October, structured Saturn’s began a three-year visit to Scorpio, your twelfth house of healing, closure and spiritual retreat. The change-making November 13 total solar eclipse in Scorpio only further unmoored your attachment to all things earthbound: money, status, material conquests. As much of a hippie as you can be, Sagittarius, you still love your earthly pleasures—and even more so, engaging in the purposeful pursuit of them. Sitting still is one of your least favorite things; yet life is now calling for exactly that: stillness. Weeeeeird. Your priorities are undergoing a major shift, and you could be at the trailhead of a huge spiritual awakening. It’s not about doing more, more, more now—even when you feel “better” doing the dishes, folding the laundry, or shooting off that last email before bedtime. Consider that you’re addicted to doing—and the stars have just put your a$$ in rehab. It’s time to create space and serenity in your life so you can hear your true calling speak. As Ram Dass said, “The quieter you become, the more you can hear.”
So, ready, set, reinvent! The first big blast of renewal could come at the December 13 Sagittarius new moon, which also acts as your personal new year. Don’t save the resolutions for the last day of 2012; make them now. That same day, erratic Uranus ends a five-month retrograde in Aries, your fifth house of love, passion and creativity. If you’ve been feeling out of tune with your desires, they’ll come back a-knocking now. Put some structure behind them with the help of Gemini biz whiz Danielle LaPorte’s latest offering, The Desire Map. She’s holding a three-day launch event for this new book-slash-soul curriculum on December 5, so check out the details here: https://wt107.infusionsoft.com/go/desiremap/ophira/. What a great way to design your next year!
That elusive hit of grounded energy could arrive on December 21, when the Sun moves into Capricorn, your earthy second house of money, work and daily routine. You’ll have a solid month to shift your priorities, create new habits, and start acting on all those New Year’s resolutions. This date is also slated to be the so-called “end of the world,” but you’re a smart enough sign to recognize this as a metaphor. We’ve been moving toward the symbolic energy of 2012 for several years now, marked by a cultural shift toward embracing spirituality, energetic and quantum studies, and a drive toward unity. The number of “lightworkers” on the planet has increased, and more and more people are looking inward, transforming and embracing personal responsibility. Of course, the polar opposite of this has also accelerated, and we’ll begin to notice an ever-sharper divide between the old guard and the new. As the zodiac sign that has the broadest view and vision, Sagittarians certainly have a role in helping to shape the post-2012 culture with your wisdom and insight.
The toughest spot this month comes at the December 28 Cancer full moon. It’s already intense, since Cancer rules your eighth house of intimacy, secrets and powerful emotions. However, this full moon is also entangled in a three-way tug-of-war with volatile Uranus and Pluto. Issues around money, power, control and self-expression could come to the fore. Some buried feelings may surface in an explosive reaction. You might feel compelled to take a strong stand for both your emotional and financial needs near this date—even though they crisscross and contradict each other. For example, you SAY you’re committed to fun and passion, yet you spend hours working overtime or won’t allow yourself to splurge on that dream trip to Costa Rica you’ve been talking about for years. You want to let go…but you refuse to leap. What’s up with that? Delve into the nitty-gritty of the past conditioning that’s keeping you locked into a limiting or negative energy grid.
Shake off those vibes on New Year’s Eve, when the moon moves into Leo, a friendly fellow fire sign. Hit the dance floor, crank up the karaoke machine, head to a lively party where you can commune with kindred souls. The moon will form a harmonious angle to romantic, pleasure-loving Venus in Sagittarius. Love could be in the stars as the calendar turns! If you’re happily coupled, devote the night to adventure with the one you love. The more the merrier as the calendar turns!
LOVE & ROMANCE
With the Sun in Sagittarius until December 21, your real love affair is with your own life. Now that you’re feeling back to normal (mostly), you want to flex those independent muscles and indulge in much-needed “me” time. No offense to your loyal mate, but nomadic Sagittarius definitely abides by the “absence makes the heart grow fonder” law—at least, when you’re the one who needs space. Take a solo birthday trip to Barcelona or Buenos Aires (or at least plan one). Go visit a friend for a long weekend of indulgent meals, shopping, and great conversation. Do something that reconnects you with your wild and unbound Sagittarian soul.
Besides, with Venus in your twelfth house of closure and mystery until the 15th, love can feel like a complicated affair—one that’s too murky to make sense of now. You might even be gently mourning the end of a relationship, or feeling a little codependent with your mate. (Cue the claustrophobia.) On December 15, love planet Venus enters Sagittarius, putting you back in the mood for love. Got your own version of Carrie Bradshaw’s Mr. Big stringing you along? Cancel THAT subscription. The amorous planet sets your sights on the future, instead of dragging out the painful past. Do you really need another act of this Greek tragedy? Nah. Maybe it’s just time to forgive, forget and drop a grudge you’ve been carrying over a past transgression. How can your partner ever redeem him/herself when you’re always carrying a loaded scorecard?
That baggage only drags you both down into a heavy, negative vibration. And may we remind you this is the season of lights…and lightness? With Venus in your sign, you’re turning heads everywhere—and enjoying it. So quit brooding and start breeding (or something like that). This is also an important time for self-care. Remember that pampering is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. When you feel your best, you radiate pure power and attraction. It affects every part of your life, so it’s worth the effort. Treat yourself to a blowout or a makeup lesson. Splurge on a great winter coat that flatters your shape or troll the racks of a high-end department store outlet for some price-reduced designer scores. Borrow some birthday party couture from RentTheRunway.com. Hit the spa for a facial and a hot stone massage.
On December 13, unstable Uranus ends a five-month retrograde in Aries, your passionate fifth house. Since July, you may have felt tense or antsy in a relationship. A windswept affair may have come on strong, only to flame out as quickly as it started. Your own temper or short fuse may have caused friction with a partner, or your attraction to someone may have sizzled then fizzled. Now that Uranus is back to direct (forward) motion, it should be easier to move forward with a romance. The fifth house rules fertility, so if you’re trying to get pregnant, you’ll have more success now.
The December 28 Cancer full moon spotlights your eighth house of intimacy. Meow, Sag. There could be a holiday proposal, a steamy affair or perhaps some pregnancy news. You may decide it’s time to make a relationship more official…or less. Since full moons bring events to fruition, a stagnating or difficult relationship may also reach a turning point…or an end. Have you tried everything to make this work, but the other person refuses to meet you halfway or let down their guard? Maybe you DON’T want to drag hardship into 2013 after all, Sagittarius. At the very least, stifled resentments can come out into the open. Perhaps this is your opportunity to air them—and once you do, you may feel that you haven’t really lost that lovin’ feeling after all.
Watch out, though. This full moon will form a T-square with volatile Uranus in your romance house and transformational Pluto in your second house of finance and self-esteem. Money issues could figure into a relationship. You may have an epiphany about how closely connected your self-worth and your net worth are. As much as you long for stability, there’s a part of you that feels dead inside when things get too predictable. Can you find a way to create “healthy drama” in your life, rather than manifesting the rug being constantly pulled out from under you? Aim for the lover’s equivalent of a nice, even “endorphin high” rather than a mad adrenaline rush triggered by fear and distress. How? Be proactive about devoting time and resources to things that really turn you on (with and without your honey). Do things that really make you feel in the zone—free, happy, inspired, laughing. That way, you won’t need to sabotage your security just to keep from feeling trapped—a Sagittarian’s worst nightmare. Follow your bliss and the rest will fall into place. Sounds easier said than done…but try it. You’ll see. Make like the Pied Piper and let the kindred revelers join your pleasure parade.
MONEY & CAREER
Make that money, Sag! Go-getter Mars is in Capricorn, your work and finance sign, until December 25. It’s a mad stampede to the finish line for you this year, with the potential to pluck some extra profit out of this festive season. Of course, just because you’re eager to ink a deal doesn’t mean that others will come down from their holiday highs, feathered quills in hand. Mars can add motivation and stress in equal doses, so if you find yourself checking your email obsessively for a response or a job offer, try to relax. Tunnel vision creates what the Buddhists call “attachment”—an unhealthy fixation that blocks the natural flow of energy and prevents you from seeing all the amazing other options and possible paths. At the very least, take breaks. A walk in nature is the best restorative trick in the book for your outdoorsy sign—even if “nature” is a tree-lined block en route to buy your fourth latte of the day. We’re aiming for progress, not perfection here.
During this Mars cycle, it could be that you’re on a crunch-time deadline and feeling the burn. Suddenly, everyone wants everything done yesterday—and it’s all riding on you. Even worse, there doesn’t seem to be any wiggle room left around the due dates. Couldn’t you just scream, Sag? Go ahead. Let yourself unleash a primal roar, punch a mattress, or (our go-to Sag solution) belt out a karaoke power anthem. Journey, anyone?
Got a big goal or something to debut? The December 13 Sagittarius new moon acts as your personal new year. Pay special attention to events around this date. It’s a powerful moment to set your intentions for the next six months as well. Plant the seeds of whatever you want to harvest at the corresponding Sagittarius full moon, which will be on May 25, 2013.
On December 21, the Sun moves into Capricorn for a month, heating up the workhorse energy even more. Fortunately, its energizing vibes will give you the fuel you need to miraculously meet your commitments. On the 25th, Mars moves into Aquarius, your third house of communication, until February 1. You could end the year with a million amazing ideas, perhaps even pumped to write a book, start a blog, teach a class or combine your talents with someone whose skills are the perfect complement. Treat yourself to a gorgeous journal…or an iPad mini with Bluetooth keyboard (hello, sexy)…to record the ideas that fly fast and furious.
On December 28, the Cancer full moon spotlights your eighth house of wealth, joint ventures and shared resources. This could be a defining moment around your finances. Look back to the July 18 Cancer new moon, as this is now the culmination of seeds planted near this date. You might receive a year-end windfall, bonus, gift or some kind of passive income payoff. Perhaps you’ll have a huge hit of clarity around how to grow your nest egg in the coming year.
Don’t expect it to be a shangri-la process, though. This full moon sits opposite intense, transformational Pluto in Capricorn. You may need to make some seismic changes in the way you view and treat money to manifest that motherlode. If you’re carrying “poverty consciousness” from your childhood or a past business decision that left you burned, this full moon is your moment to exorcise that pattern. We know firsthand how hard it is to shift your mental programming, especially around money and love. Unless you get down to the roots of those limiting beliefs, though, they’ll never change.
Of course, the goal isn’t to navel-gaze or throw a pity party. Sure, you may figure out that your parents always fought about money so you avoid the topic, or that they never discussed it so you’re left without a clear understanding of how to manage your own finances. (Investment account? What’s that?) Or, maybe you have the epiphany that (as our wise Sag friend Kathleen put it) you don’t respect your money, so that no matter how much you make, you keep ending back at the same balance. Great insights—just don’t stop there, Sag. Now, it’s time to start carving out some new neural pathways, rerouting your mental circuitry to fire toward the abundance channel. Did you just go “huh?” Then read this: we’re loving Joe Dispenza’s book Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How To Lose Your Mind and Create a New One. It was recommended to us by a Sagittarian named Billy, whom we met serendipitously at lunch in a small cafe—one of those movie moments when a messenger divinely appears. Dispenza was one of the experts in the documentary What The Bleep Do We Know?, and he makes good sense out of the Law of Attraction. If you’ve dismissed that and the idea of “manifesting” as airy-fairy New Age hype, you might just rethink that stance.
HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL
Last month was tough for many Sagittarians, and even downright exhausting. With so many planets moving through Scorpio, your twelfth house of rest and healing, burnout kicked in. You may have felt overwhelmed and on the verge pretty often, in desperate need of support. The silver lining of this suffering? You could have finally realized your own human limitations. Pushing yourself too hard and not taking time to rebalance? That will no longer fly. With Saturn spending the next three years in your restorative twelfth house, your need for retreat is greater than ever. Meditation, yoga, stretching, getting enough sleep—these types of powering-down practices are now required for your sanity and health.
With beautifying Venus in Scorpio until December 15, you can enjoy bringing self-care and aesthetic pleasures into your world. Would fresh flowers, a real pine wreath, or a chandelier make you radiate joy and boost productivity? Put them in your work space. This is a great time for feng shui, decluttering and decorating with vintage treasures, found objects and period pieces. Add more art and sensuality to your environment—both at work and home.
The December 28 Cancer full moon spotlights your emotional, psychological and internal health. Follow the tenet: as within, so without. This could be a day fraught with extreme emotions and reactions for you. With the full moon’s tense T-square to Uranus and Pluto, you may need to examine your daily habits and priorities—and outright transform them. Are you bingeing on junk food or caffeine for a quick hit of energy? Skipping breakfast then carb-loading at lunch? Add more sustaining (and sustainably-grown) fare to your plate. You might even do a cleanse. Of course, it’s not just the food you take in, but also the energy of people, conversations, and your overall environment that you absorb. Make a point of eliminating unnecessary stressors, drama and people who fire-bomb you with distractions. The people you surround yourself with are more important than you realize. Band together with a like-minded crew that supports your efforts to create a healthy, happy lifestyle.
