Gemini Monthly Horoscope

May 2012

MONTHLY OVERVIEW
May promises to be an exciting, if unpredictable, month. You’ve been on a spiritual and emotional vision quest — willingly or not — since last June, when expansive Jupiter entered Taurus, your 12th house of healing, closure and surrender. Jupiter is in Taurus until June 11, so you’re almost finished with this hazy phase, which comes around every 12 years. The past 11 months have been like an astrological mushroom trip for many Geminis — surreal, even psychedelic, yet utterly freeing once you finally let go and allowed the universe to drive.

Still white-knuckling that steering wheel? In May, you could finally get the courage to release your grip. Both the energizing Sun and Jupiter are in Taurus until May 19, inspiring you to bid a chapter of your life adieu. You may be enticed by the promise of adventure, which beckons from just past the border of your tightly controlled realm. Will this crazy year ever make sense? Soon enough, Gemini. If you notice yourself laughing — with true, childlike abandon — at the divine comedy of life, well, you got the cosmic lesson right there. During this cycle, you may need to sleep more, and may have vivid dreams or strong intuitive flashes.

And if that’s not enough, on May 20, a Gemini solar eclipse does a “hard reset” on your wiring. This new moon eclipse is a huge thrust toward your individuality, personal goals and solo path. Think back to June 1, 2011, which was the first Gemini solar eclipse in a three-year series running from 2010 to 2014. Every six months or so, an eclipse on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis comes along to shake up your personal goals or your closest relationships. While this might sound like a curse, it’s all in how you meet it. While eclipses can be wildly abrupt change agents, they also sweep away anything outmoded. This Gemini eclipse is the sequel to last summer’s, a time to take yet another bold step toward becoming your own person — and making your mark.

LOVE & ROMANCE
Everything is up for evaluation this month, and that includes your closest relationships — or the way you’ve set up your love life. Romantic Venus is on an extended trip through Gemini (April 3–August 7), making you deeply consider what you need from a partner or arrangement. No surprise Gemini Angelina Jolie was suddenly sporting an engagement ring during this time — and in the midst of the Gemini/Sagittarius eclipse cycle (Brad Pitt is a Sag). Your whole love life is getting a massive cosmic makeover, and has been since December 2010.

Well, get ready to do a lot more soul-searching, Gemini. From May 15 through June 27, Venus goes retrograde (backward), which can be a dodgy time for hearts all over the world. For some Geminis, Venus retrograde could stop you cold in your tracks, making you pull away and reconsider some of your choices. Some coupled Geminis might even want to take a trial break during this six-week period.

With a Gemini solar eclipse on May 20 overturning certain beliefs about yourself or awakening new desires, a new part of you will be emerging in the coming six months. While you shouldn’t rush into major decisions near this eclipse (we can be a bit confused and disoriented under their spell), allow whatever comes up emotionally to arise. Retrogrades also bring back the past, so you may decide to give a past love a second chance — or at least take each other for another trial spin. Who knows? Perhaps you’ve both changed enough for the timing to be right.

Many astrologers advise against marrying during Venus retrograde, but let’s face it, you can’t exactly cancel a major event. However, if you have a wedding planned, take some extra precautions here, perhaps sitting down with a counselor or clergyperson for a little premarital “clearing” session. Venus rules all interpersonal harmony, so that includes guests, who could be crankier than usual, or the venue and aesthetics, which could go a bit awry. You might want to hire a “day-of” wedding planner for extra help.

MONEY & CAREER
Things are starting to gel in your career now, as nearly a year of soul-searching, gestating and “marinating” begins to pay off. You’re getting that much closer to figuring out who you want to be for the next phase of your life. Still not quite sure? Relax. On June 11, expansive Jupiter enters Gemini for a year, setting off a whole new 12-year life cycle. You’ve got more than a month to meditate on it — or even to enjoy some sweet denial.

If you choose to bury your head in the sand, your ostrich-feathered booty might get a little shove forward from the May 20 Gemini solar eclipse. This date could bring a profound epiphany about your true mission on the planet, or an opportunity to strike out solo. A great primer for entrepreneurial types (or anyone with a dream): the newly published Firestarter Sessions by Gemini passion pioneer Danielle LaPorte. Her book can help kindle any sparks lit by the Gemini solar eclipse, turning them into a blazing brush fire by the corresponding November 28 Gemini lunar eclipse.

Meanwhile, focus on tying up loose ends. The May 5 Scorpio full moon is perfect for a massive decluttering and organizational overhaul. After the nomadic year so many Geminis have had — moving, traveling, soul-searching, couch surfing — you may be feeling pretty damn scattered. Use this Cinco de Mayo weekend to unpack boxes, upgrade systems and whip your life into shape, even if you sip a salt-rimmed margarita while you work!

HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL
Shed some layers, Gemini — emotional ones, that is. With the Sun and Jupiter in your healing 12th house, it’s time to leave the past in the past for good. That means no bringing up that topic if you’ve promised to bury it, or torturing yourself with regrets, pity parties and self-sabotaging actions. Capisce, Gemini?

On May 5, a Scorpio full moon beams into your sixth house of health and fitness. This is a powerhouse day for your well-being, or a perfect day to kick a habit and commit to your health. Watch your stress levels near this full moon and a tendency toward perfectionism. You can be quite a critic at times. Retract your claws, Gemini — instead of shredding yourself or someone else, head to the gym or your favorite de-stressing spot.
